Scout was just a tiny kitten, only 5-and-a-half weeks old, when she was brought to her brand-new home. She wouldn’t be the only pet though; the household already had a dog, an older pup named Charlie.
Being so tiny and full of love, Scout immediately took to her new family— and, to everyone’s surprise, that included Charlie.
Soon enough, Scout and Charlie were the best of friends!
Scout couldn’t sleep without the warm embrace of her canine guardian, Charlie. The senior dog was a gentle giant to the little kitten. He let her have free reign over his entire warm and furry body!
It didn’t take long for the pair to become deeply connected, sleeping together and eating meals together too.
Everyone was surprised by their bond. Within only a short period of time, Scout quickly became attached to Charlie. And as everyone could see, Charlie had grown quite attached too.
“They even eat their meals together. She loved smelling his ears,” their owner shared on Imgur.
When Charlie developed cancer and made his journey over the Rainbow Bridge, Scout was completely devastated.
She was lonely and couldn’t understand what happened to her best friend. But luckily, Scout’s owner saw her pain and did his best to help her through her grief.
“Since he’s been gone, I’ve put the iPad on his dog bed and played videos of him for her.”
This simple act comforted the sad kitty, but of course, it was no replacement for real, furry cuddles.
She longingly stared at her friend through a screen, lying on the bed they had so lovingly shared. After some time, Scout’s healing began, but of course, there was a hole in her heart for her beloved Charlie.
“This is her now, as beautiful as ever, even though we’re still grieving for our sweet Charlie”
It seemed like the only thing that would cure Scout of her loneliness was if Charlie would come back… But maybe a new dog friend would help?
Meet Oswald!
Although he’s not the original Charlie, Scout deems him to be an appropriate new BFF!
Oswald is just a puppy, so a little more energetic than Charlie was, but, by all appearances, Scout definitely doesn’t seem to mind!
When Scout was a hyper little kitten, it was Charlie who was older and more relaxed. This time, however, the tables have turned! Perhaps Scout realizes Oswald is just a baby like she was herself. Animals (and mammals, in particular) are amazing at sensing when another is younger and requires more patience and care.
Charlie and Scout had an incredible bond, one that doesn’t come around too often.
We hope Oswald and Scout one day develop a bond like the one Scout had with Charlie. Unfortunately, the older dog’s shoes (err… paw prints?) will definitely be hard to fill.
