Luna’s family found her when she was just 3 weeks old – she was wandering alongside the road with no mom in sight. Without a second thought, they took her in and adopted her. Since then, they have made sure to spoil Luna rotten.
As Luna’s 15th birthday was getting closer, the family started planning her a very big celebration. It was going to be a quinceanera celebration to be precise.
Traditionally, a quinceanera is a Latin cultural tradition and rite of passage where you celebrate a girl’s 15th birthday with a lavish celebration. Since Luna’s family loves her so much, it was only fitting that she get one too.
“Luna is an absolute sweetheart, loves curling up with people and loves laying on her back on the floor,” Angel Olavarria, Luna’s brother, told The Dodo. “We have spoiled her with abundant love and she has outlived all of our pets. On her 15th birthday we decided to give our little cheese ball a surprise quinceañera.”
In traditional quinceanera form, it was only fitting that Luna should not only have a giant party with food and decorations – but she’d need a fancy dress too.
“My mom found the dress on Amazon,” Angel said. “I totally thought my mom was joking when she said she was going to order a dress for her, but my mom never jokes about our pets.”
Come the day of the party, the dining room was adorned with bright pink decorations everywhere. There was a pink tablecloth, balloons, flowers, and lots of yummy treats. After getting Luna all dressed up in her pink fluffy dress, it was time to celebrate.
Luna seemed to love her party dress and all of the attention. She even had 12 guests in attendance of the big day.
The 15-year-old cat sat at the head of the table surrounded by people that have loved her throughout the years. The family and friends partied with Luna for around three hours while they enjoyed great company and wonderful food. Just like tradition, there was even a tres leches cake and Luna, had her very own special treat.
“She was such a good sport through the whole thing that we think she actually knew we were celebrating her,” Olavarria said “She loved it even more when we opened up a nice can of tuna for her.”
