Whenever you’re upset or nervous, it’s always good to have a friend who can comfort you, someone who understands you and knows how to make you feel better. That’s what friends are for.

A dog with anxiety named Joule has a friend who always knows how to make her feel better: a cat named Kelvin.

Although Joule still has some anxiety problems, she really has come a long way since she was first adopted by Brenna Eckert. Brenna spoke with The Dodo about Joule’s beginnings.

“Joule had a lot of anxiety when we first adopted her,” Brenna told The Dodo. “We worked one-on-one with a dog behaviorist to help work through some of her issues.”

And although the behaviorists are helping, there is still a bit of work to do. But that’s okay, things like this take time.

“She is certainly a velcro dog,” Brenna said. “When we are home she always needs to be close to us.”

It wasn’t long after Brenna adopted Joule that she decided to adopt an orange tabby cat named Kelvin – Joule and Kelvin immediately hit it off and became best friends.

“The animal shelters had given each of them a temporary name before we adopted them,” Brenna said. “Kelvin’s shelter name was Socks and Joule’s shelter name was Sandals. How ironic that Socks and Sandals make such a great pair!”

Brenna loved that the cat and dog were getting along so well but she had no idea just how close they were until she set up security cameras at home. She wanted to keep an eye on things while she was at work.

When Brenna watched the security footage for the first time, she was completely blown away. She had never seen their behavior like this in person. Not only was Kelvin comforting the anxiety-ridden Joule, but he did it for the entire day.

“We noticed that Kelvin and Joule were laying on the couch together almost every day,” she said. “I moved the camera to get a closer view of the couch and was amazed to see that they weren’t just sharing the couch, but they were snuggling up against each other.”

When Brenna first shared the video, it came with the caption “This happens literally every weekday for the full 8 hours we’re gone.”

Of course, even though Joule is the one being comforted, it’s clear that Kelvin loves being near his canine friend.

“Kelvin’s personality is very mellow and sweet,” Brenna explained. “He loves sleeping and being warm, both of which he gets by snuggling up to Joule during the day.”

Now, Kelvin and Joule have their very own Instagram account where you can see them snuggling all the time. And each video gets cuter than the next.

We’re so glad Brenna decided to install those security cameras. Because otherwise? We might not have this cute footage!

“They only snuggle with each other like this when we are not around,” Brenna explained. “If we are home, Joule wants to be with us, so she basically ignores the cat.”

This adorable video shows just how well Kelvin understands his friend. It’s so sweet to watch.
