You’ve probably heard the idiom “fight like cats and dogs” countless times before. But in reality though, they can actually become really good friends! If you haven’t witnessed this for yourself – all it takes is a quick search online to find all kinds of adorable cat and dog pairs.
One video, in particular, shows just how strong of a bond they can develop.
The clip is from Russia and it features a dog and mother cat who are reuniting in an alley-like area.
When the cat goes to visit her old friend, she’s not alone. She brings along her kittens so she can “introduce them” to the pooch – and what takes place is melting the internet’s heart.
It starts out with the dog and cat face-to-face.
If you hadn’t of been clued in that it’s an uplifting video, one might wonder if the two would actually get along. However, the dog’s tail is slightly wagging as she interacts with the cat.
While there isn’t a back story on the pair, Metro shared the following details:
“According to the video poster the cat, a stray, has spent many years on the streets of Russia with the dog, and decided to bring her new kittens to meet her old friend when they got old enough.”
And who might you be?
One of the cat’s babies walks up and appears to interrupt their “conversation.” Understandably, the dog seems intrigued by the little guy. The mama then paws at her friend, perhaps as a sign of affection – or maybe to advise her to be gentle with her kitten.
Like a good doggie (and friend), the pooch lays down.
Just a moment later the cat is comfortable enough to walk away and leave the kitten with her canine buddy. Then, another baby approaches and wants to get in on the fun too!
A viewer pointed out:
“The cat must’ve really loved the dog and trusted the dog. She knew that dog wouldn’t harm them and would be gentle. I don’t know everything about cats but I know a deep friendship when I see it.”
Who’s ready for some playtime?
The kittens so sweetly paw at the dog, seeming at ease despite being around a “large” animal. When the dog gently paws back it’s almost like they’re engaging in a game of patty-cake!
Get ready to say “aww” watching the three animals play together.
The dog appears to be gentle with the little ones, almost as if she knows they’re her friend’s babies. As for the mama cat? She rests nearby not seeming concerned a single bit. Likely, she was loving being given a break!
The clip went viral after being uploaded. As of now it’s been watched over 10.7 million times on YouTube and has received 17K “likes.”
Even the grown-ups get to have fun together.
After some bonding time with the kittens, the pooch starts playfully roughhousing with her old buddy. While we don’t know for certain what their whole story is, it’s evident there’s something special between them.
A person commented, “One of the most beautiful displays of emotion I’ve seen between cat and dog,” and another said, “I could literally watch this for hours.”
