You can say what you will about cats being cold and callous but it’s not true. And one cat named Yuuki is proving this to be true.
She cares for her human, a whole lot!
Yuuki was a lonely shelter cat. Until one day the love of her life scooped her up and out of the shelter and brought her to her forever home.
Max Nimrichter adopted Yuuki from the Cleveland Animal Protective League about six months before he left for boot camp to join the U.S. Navy.
Max figured that having a cat in the house would make his mother a little less lonely while he was away.
But he never considered the effect his absence would have on Yuuki. Yuuki fell in love with Max, hard and fast. And he loved her back just as much.
“Max has always felt connections to any animals he was around,” Max’s mom, Erin Nimrichter, told The Dodo. “He’s a sweetheart.”
Max and Yuuki would snuggle daily.
But then ended when Max was shipped off to boot camp. He was sent out of state and couldn’t come home to visit very often.
It took a little while for Yuuki to understand this. Eventually, she realized that she couldn’t expect to see him at home every day.
But she still couldn’t stand to be away from him.
So, she found a way to stay close to him. She recognized a photo of him in the house. She sits by that photo often and just longingly stares at it.
Erin says that the photo of Max seems to bring her some sort of comfort.
“She just sits there, stares and meows and then lays down next to the picture to nap,” Erin said. “I know for sure she misses him.”
Erin even put Yuuki to the test by moving the photo to see if she was just attracted to the spot where the photo was and not the photo itself.
But when Erin moves the photo, Yuuki goes to find it. She can’t help but stare into the eyes of her love, even if it’s just a picture.
Thankfully, she won’t have to just look at that photo for too long.
Max’s family is scheduled to visit him in a few weeks and they’re bringing Yuuki along.
“My son worries that she won’t remember him,” Erin said. “It gives me comfort knowing she does, and it’s nice to have proof to show him.”
You can see Yuuki in action starring at her beloved’s photo in the video below. It’s insanely adorable and bittersweet.
