A few years ago, a tiny kitten was born. He had a butterfly-shaped nose and adorable kinked tail. It was easy to see he would be special.
This little guy was born on November 17th, 2014, to a sweet rescue cat named Dorothy. Dorothy had been rescued by a rescue in Langley, British Columbia, Canada. She had been abandoned by her family when she got pregnant, but luckily kindhearted neighbors had stepped in to help her out.
“Dorothy gave birth to six adorable babies on November 17th,” the rescue wrote. “One of them is quite special.”
One of the kittens had a butterfly-shaped nose— the result of a congenital cleft lip. It was totally adorable and cute— but unfortunately, it made it hard for the little guy to nurse and he would require round-the-clock bottle-feeding and care.
Cleft lips occur in kittens when the tissue that forms the lip does not join together properly before birth, resulting in an opening. According to Pet Health Network, the slit can be small separation, or it may extend right into the nose. Sometimes when a kitten has a cleft lip, they also have a cleft palate which can pose more serious health problems. For example, Pet Health Network lists: “sneezing, passage of milk through the nostrils when nursing, coughing, chronic infections in the sinuses, and failure to grow or ‘thrive'” as all being associated with a cleft palate.
Luckily, the baby boy had a loving rescuer named Shelly to help him out. Shelly ensured the kitten was properly fed and smothered in cuddles and love. With the proper care put in place, the little guy soon started to grow big and healthy.
“He got a bottle or tube fed every two to three hours around the clock,” Shelly said. “We were very lucky that his palate did not seem to be affected.”
They named him Professor Pudgeblossom Marvel.
“Five weeks of round-the-clock bottle feeding later, he was a healthy, happy little pudgeblossom who showed the world that sometimes your differences are what make you absolutely purrfect,” the rescue wrote.
Now Professor Marvel was happy and healthy, enjoying every day with his siblings and friends.
He was always ready for fun, adventure and high-fives— but he still needed a furever home to call his own.
As Professor Marvel waited for the perfect family, he grew more adorable with each passing day.
He quickly got bigger and stronger (and fluffier too!). And it was pretty obvious this Professor would grow to be a truly majestic cat.
In February of 2015, Professor Marvel was officially adopted into a furever home.
Luckily though, he wouldn’t be going alone. He would be going to live there with Toto, his best friend and brother. The two are a bonded pair.
Professor Marvel and Toto settled right into their new family.
And Marvel continued to get fluffier every day.
Now, three years later, the two brothers are all grown up.
And Marvel is the majestic cat rescue workers always knew he would be.
