Losing a beloved pet is just as painful as losing a loved one.

We are always excited whenever we welcome a new pet at home, may it be a cat, a dog, or whatever animal. We feed them, we wash them, we play with them, sleep with them, and create memories with them.

Having a loyal animal companion is more than just a human-animal relationship – it’s an unbreakable bond. That is why when we lose them, it breaks our hearts into smithereens. We become heartbroken to the point when the pain is no longer bearable.

Imagine a child losing a pet.

It’s already torturing for adults to see their pet perish. But what more damage could it possibly do to the young ones? For most kids, one of the first loyal friends they could have in life is their cat or dog.

Knowing about the passing of their pet could bring them an immense amount of pain, let alone seeing them pass in front of them. No kids deserve to undergo such a tragic experience but it’s an inevitable part of one’s life.

This was the problem of one father when something bad happened to their family dog.

In an interview with Oprah, the family told an unbelievable story about how their dog.

One day, dad Glenn Maloney was outside Viola Tiszl’s (his girlfriend’s) house. Suddenly, he heard their family dog, a Jack Russell terrier named Mugsy, yelping down the road.

When he saw the poor dog, it was covered in blood and looked terribly hurt. Right there and then, he knew the dog got hit by a car.

Sadly, Mugsy died in his arms.

Lifeless Mugsy was already tragic but letting the kids know was another thing.

As a father of then 3 and 4-year-old kids, Glenn knew it’d break their hearts. He also didn’t want them to see Mugsy’s body covered in blood.

Around 10 minutes after the car accident, he decided to bury the furry member of their family. He simply didn’t have the guts to immediately tell the kids about what happened to Mugsy, until 7 PM later that day.

It was finally time to let the children know about the sudden passing of Mugsy.

They eventually showed the kids the dog’s grave but then 4-year-old Megan (one of Glenn’s kids) wanted to put a cross where their dog was peacefully resting. She was undeniably attached to the dog emotionally and couldn’t believe what fate had brought to their dog.

The family agreed to do that the next day. Viola came home later that night at 9 PM and also heard the sad news about Mugsy. It was indeed a tearful day for the entire family.

The next morning at around 5:30, Glenn woke up to a scratching sound.

He went to the back door and saw a wagging tail – it was Mugsy’s.

Was it really Mugsy or just his “ghost”? An apparition? Or was Glenn still sleepy at that time that’s why he’s seeing things?

Glenn woke Viola up to let her know Mugsy’s back.

At first, she didn’t believe him and even told him he must’ve had buried the wrong dog.

But the man was positive because the collar and the dog tag were all there. To verify it, they went to the dog’s grave to see if it was really the wrong dog or if the grave was dug up.

To their surprise, the grave was dug up.

Yes, that’s right. It’s like Mugsy rose from the dead. But why did they presume he was dead?

According to Viola, the vet told them the dog’s heart rate was probably just very slow, almost gone. Turned out, Mugsy was very weak and just slept for a few hours underground and went back up when he was running out of oxygen.

Either way, we’re all glad Mugsy’s story wasn’t yet over.
