Is there a more iconic heroic monster than King Kong himself? The gargantuan gorilla, who in the isolation of a pre-historically isolated island was able to grow to an unfathomable size has long fascinated viewers and titillated movie goers since his first appearance in 1933. It’s all too easy to imagine the beast scaling the Empire State building and swatting away planes like flies, or tumbling through the jungle wrestling with Tyrannosaurus Rexes.
When Peter Jackson, the cinematic brain behind the Lord of the Rings films remade the King Kong movie, it allowed a whole new generation to appreciate Kong’s story.
This new generation of fans however, isn’t exclusively human…
Some of the movie’s biggest fans aren’t so much “fanboys” as they are “good boys”, which is to say of the canine persuasion. One such doggo, a Bulldog by the name Khaleesi, seems to be very engaged in the movie indeed, and is right there rooting for Nicole Kidman as she flees the tyranny of the Rex.
Khaleesi has her eyes glued to the screen… Someone get this dog some popcorn!
Perhaps being named after the Mother of Dragons has made her more sympathetic to the giant lizards. Tyrannosaurus Rex means; Tyrant Lizard King, which if you’ve seen the later seasons of Game of Thrones, rings true! Maybe it’s this association that made Khaleesi root for the Rexes?
When Kong arrives on the scene to save the day however, she is UP!
The second the hairy fella leaps into frame, Khaleesi begins barking at him. It seems that she is a tad prejudiced toward the primate in the mix, and seems to find Kong to be more a threat to the damsel. Hey, maybe she just doesn’t like Kidman’s acting and is hoping for her role to meet a swift end at the teeth of the T-Rex?
And when she’s in Kong’s safe hands, Khaleesi is NOT having it!
She barks relentlessly at the television, and as more and more T-Rexes join the fray, she becomes even more animated.
And it’s not just me noticing Khaleesi’s anti-Kong leanings, many commenters do too, with pretty funny posts:
T-Rex: I’m gonna [eat] this human
Dog: Fine
Kong: I’m gonna save this human
Dog: bhaw bhaw bhaw…..
–Last Wizard of the Century
Is it possible that actually Khaleesi has a secret distain for human kind and was hoping to see this human meet an untimely end?
Could it also be possible that Khaleesi prefers the original 1933 movie, and seeing a new and more technologically advanced Kong is what’s setting her off?
“Woof Woof WOOOOOF”
Translated into English:
“Well, it would seem that the nuances of a stop-motion animated beast are lost in the digital age of CGI and motion-capture technologies. Where once we saw a hands-on effort requiring skill of the hands to animate a figure, we have exchanged the true art of cinema for cheap automated thrills.”…She seems to say…
Or maybe she just HATES gorillas?
