Reuben is an English Bulldog from Wilmington, North Carolina that has become an animal celebrity on the internet. His owner, Mike Melnotte, made a YouTube channel for Reuben’s daily adventures with over 453 videos and 165,000 subscribers. The channel racked up over 43 million views since they started uploading videos four years ago. Moreover, Reuben’s Instagram account has reached 14.6 thousand followers.
Before Reuben the Bulldog got popular, the channel started with a bunch of short videos.
Four years ago, Melnotte started uploading videos of his first English bulldog, which was Reuben. He began with videos of Reuben sleeping, slow-motion running, and playtime.
The adorable puppy’s videos racked up a couple of thousand of views, which inspired Melnotte to keep uploading more frequently. Subscribers kept coming and they witnessed how the puppy grew up to be the round blob of an adorable couch potato Reuben is today.
One of the videos from four years ago is about Reuben throwing a tantrum.
The video was less than a minute long, but it still received over 600,000 views. Reuben was perhaps denied a walk from a park or an extra bowl of food, and that was why he was throwing a hissy fit on his doggy bed. Reuben kept scratching his bed, and he even threw in some barks while he was at it. Eventually, he got tired from it and took a rest while looking at the filming Melnotte.
Melnotte drew his camera closer to Reuben’s wrinkly face and you could hear Reuben breathing. As Melnotte went close enough to the angry pup’s face, Reuben let out an exasperated sigh and barked at him. Reuben’s stubbornness did not stop and he continued growling and barking his owner away from him.
Even though he was clearly angry at something, you just cannot take him seriously with his puppy eyes and adorable chubby face. The more you watch Reuben throwing a tantrum, the more you want to pinch his grumpy face.
Puppies are a lot to handle sometimes.
Most dog owners encounter a lot of trouble with their dogs when they’re puppies. Just like Reuben, puppies like to throw tantrums when it seems that they cannot get what they want, or perhaps they still feel untrusting towards their environment and the people around them. Even though it is a lot of growling and barking, it’s really just a process of creating a bond with their owners.
