Sam Steingard and his rescue cat Ruby share an incredible bond.
Sam and his family found Ruby behind a Ruby Tuesday’s ten years ago. The kitten was clearly a stray, and she badly needed some help. Sam’s family took her in and nursed her back to health.
Ruby loved her new family! She would walk with Sam and his sister Caroline to school, and she’d curl up with them at night.
While Ruby loved all her family members, she was particularly close with Sam.
Sam would talk to her in a baby voice, which Ruby loved, and he also gave her lots of treats. Ruby thanked Sam by giving him plenty of cuddles!
In 2016, Sam was a senior in high school, and he started thinking about his date for senior prom.
In the end, Sam wasn’t able to find a date, but he had the perfect solution: he’d bring his best buddy Ruby with him! Sam’s mom made Ruby an adorable pink dress, and she and Sam took some classic prom photos together.
Sam’s sister Caroline posted a photo of Sam and Ruby at prom on her Imgur page, and it quickly went viral.
Everyone loved seeing the way Ruby looked at Sam. From this photo, it’s clear that Ruby has tons of love for her human best buddy.
Many Imgur users wrote hilarious comments on the photo of Ruby and Sam.
One user asked why Sam didn’t get his cat a corsage:
“Excuse me, but did he not get a corsage to match that dress?”
Another Imgur user commented on the heartwarming way Ruby looked at Sam!
“I hope that someday someone will look at me the way she looks at him.”
Sam and Caroline have now both gone off to college, and they miss Ruby terribly when they’re gone.
Whenever they get home, Ruby immediately starts cuddling with her human siblings. On one of his trips home, Sam built Ruby a homemade fort using a cardboard box and a t-shirt, which she loves. Whenever Sam is gone, she’ll sleep in the fort.
Caroline also decided to make Ruby a little present to show her how much she missed her. She knitted the cat an adorable hat, and Ruby greatly appreciated it!
“My sister made me a hat and I love it meow,” Ruby wrote on Instagram.
Sam definitely had one of the most adorable dates at his prom. We absolutely love these cute best friends, and we’re so glad that Ruby and Sam had fun together at the prom!
