Our pets are truly members of our families.
In the United States, almost 79 million dogs are family pets, while there are over 31 million cats that are part of households. Many people refer to their pets as their children and love them as much as they would their own biological children.
Leia and Obi are the two dogs featured in the popular Instagram account Two Boxers from Brooklyn.
When their owner Allison gave birth to a baby boy, the two dogs weren’t sure how to react.
“I don’t know if they really had a clue I was pregnant,” Allison said.
Leia and Obi looked confused when they saw their new baby brother Henrick for the first time. Especially when they realized he would be living with them.
You can see them sniffing and staring at him as a newborn.
Sometimes, they would stay away from him, unsure of what to do.
According to the ASPCA, an effective way to help pets adjust to a new baby is to give your pets lots of attention when the baby is present.
When you take your baby on a walk, bring your pet along. When you feed your baby, you can also feed your dog.
This is exactly what Allison did to help Leia and Obi accept and love Henrick more easily.
“We did our best job to let them be part of the process. We would let them up and explore and they were very curious,” Allison shared.
Soon, they learned that Allison had things under control, and they began to relax around the baby.
Leia and Obi became more comfortable with Henrick.
Obi, in particular, went one step further. He became almost like a guardian angel to Henrick and always wanted to be around him.
Allison said she noticed a real connection between Obi and Henrick.
At the same time, baby Henrick also watched Leia and Obi closely and looked like he was learning from what they were doing. When Obi howled, Henrick would soon howl after him, copying what his older brother was doing.
Henrick used Obi as support when he stood up for the first time.
During this adorable moment, Obi was completely calm and didn’t move. It’s almost like he knew that Henrick was learning, and he wanted to help him as much as he could.
No matter how hard Henrick pulled on Obi’s collar, the big brother stayed put and helped Henrick learn how to stand. He was a significant part of this milestone that the family will always cherish.
This memorable event is just one of the many special moments between the two brothers.
It’s wonderful to watch Henrick grow with Obi and Leia by his side. You can easily see that they have a special sibling bond with each other.
Allison said that she can’t wait to see where their relationship goes in the future. We can’t wait too!
