If not for dog and cat videos, would the Internet even be worth it?
If you’re anything like us, these sweet creatures have brought us much joy over the last tough year, even when they belong to someone else. Well, something especially because they belong to someone else and we can just enjoy their antics via video.
Meet Archie
Archie is one of the dogs that helped bring us a smile in 2020. He’s a Boxer who belongs to Deanne Bourke, an elementary-school teacher in Australia.
Now, if you know anything about Boxers, you know they’re full of sass and they have very expressive faces. They’re particularly famous for their pouts and side-eyes.
But in this case, Archie went viral for his unrelenting need for attention. Because those of us who have worked from home for months on end have learned that our pets can, in fact, absorb our love 24/7, which is far more time than we have to dole it out since we need to work and eat and sleep.
Of course, Archie doesn’t understand that. And even if he did, he probably wouldn’t be convinced that his mom’s job teaching online could possibly be more important than him.
Archie goes incredulous
As Bourke read her students a story from her couch, the pup managed to make his way up onto the couch, a place where he’s not technically allowed.
And like those of us who have had to hold meetings and classes online during the pandemic, she realized quickly that it wasn’t in her best interests to reprimand her adorable dog on camera. So there Archie sat.
We’re sure the students loved it, especially since they got to watch their teacher try and ignore Archie’s pleas for attention, which only got more and more desperate (despite the fact that he probably has plenty of toys and other things to entertain him).
He paws at her, he pokes her, and when she ignores him, his brain goes haywire. Is he not really there? Does he not exist? Did he wake up in some horrible universe where there are no dog pets even though you’re suddenly allowed to jump on the couch?
Archie looks at the camera like he’s in the scariest episode ever of The Twilight Zone.
Then he keeps pawing because, like, what else has he got to do?
Going viral
At one point, Bourke lets on to her students that Archie is crossing the line.
“You can see that Archie is being very naughty this morning. He is wanting attention, and he’s actually sitting on the couch, when he’s not allowed to be. I’m not sure what’s going on with Archie today!”
And Archie’s like “whatever, mom.”
Well, we’re not sure Archie really needs an excuse since he doesn’t have a long list of hobbies and he’s probably wondering why his mom is talking to an inanimate object instead of him. He doesn’t know there are a bunch of kids out there watching. And thanks goodness, because he’d probably try to get right through the screen!
We can only thank Deanne Bourke for sharing her hilarious video on YouTube, where it has been viewed nearly 2 million times since April of 2020. It sure did make us laugh.
And we hope Archie got a little lecture about the couch and then lots of snuggles after his tough day at school.
Be sure to scroll down below to watch him for yourself (Bourke has other videos of Archie on her page as well).
