Bomb sniffer dogs are some of the smartest, most hard-working Good Boys out there who often risk their lives to ensure the safety of us humans. They’re trained to detect substances such as explosives, illegal drugs, wildlife scat, currency, blood, and contraband electronics, all by using their incredible sense of smell. Without them, it would be a lot more difficult and time consuming for humans to conduct a search of somebody’s belongings.
These clever dogs are most often situated at airports, ensuring that people can board their flights safely without the fear of any danger. Their job is truly important and bomb sniffer dogs deserve a lot of credit.
So when it was finally time to say goodbye for a sniffer dog who had served in the TSA for over eight years, handlers made sure that his last day was one he’d remember forever.
Meet Ttirado, a gorgeous black lab who has served in the TSA for most of his life.
When the day of his retirement finally arrived, staff decided that they wanted to surprise their canine employee as he sniffed his last ever bag. They made sure to film the sweet moment so that we can all see Ttirado’s adorable reaction as he’s presented with his retirement gift.
Mark Howell, TSA Regional Spokesperson, shared the video on Twitter and wrote:
“After more than 8 years of service @INDairport, @TSA explosive detection canine TTirado has officially retired.” He added, “TTirado was also one of our longest-serving @TSA canines— having graduated in the third class of screening canines at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX in 2012.”
The clip instantly went viral with over one million views and 24.6 likes, and people took to the comments to praise Ttirado for all of his hard work.
“Who’s a good boy!? TTirado is! Happy Retirement little man,” one user tweeted.
Someone else added:
“Congrats and happy retirement to the goodest of boys.”

The video shows Ttirado approaching a lone red bag to begin his usual search.
It’s clear that this little guy thinks that it’s a normal day at work for him – he doesn’t suspect a thing! But then, in a moment that any dog could only dream about, hundreds of tennis balls suddenly cascade from the ceiling and surround Ttirado.
The sweet pooch instantly goes crazy with joy and begins to leap around amongst the tennis balls. You can tell he’s spoiled for choice and simply doesn’t know which one to pick up first!
It turns out that there’s a special reason for Ttirado’s unique name.
“If you’re wondering about the strange spelling of Ttirado’s name, the double first letter signifies that the canine was named after a 9/11 victim. In this case, Ttirado was named after Hector Luis Tirado, FDNY Engine 23,” the TSA explained several years ago.
How lovely that this clever dog is continuing Hector’s legacy.
