The intelligence of monkeys shares intriguing similarities with humans, underlining our shared evolutionary history.
Monkeys, particularly certain species like chimpanzees and bonobos, demonstrate a high level of cognitive abilities that parallel some aspects of human intelligence.
They exhibit problem-solving skills, complex social interactions, and the use of tools, showcasing a capacity for learning and innovation.
Monkeys as pets
Apart from cats and dogs, some people find it interestingly amusing to keep monkeys as pets.
The question now arises: is it safe to keep monkeys at home, let alone as pets?

Owning a pet monkey differs vastly from caring for typical pets. It’s because of their lifespan of 20 to 40 years and the lifelong commitment they demand.
Sweet baby monkeys grow into challenging adults and aren’t well-suited as household pets. These challenges are as follows: behavioral complexities, medical concerns, and legal restrictions.
These inevitable issues can complicate the responsibility of owning a monkey.
Owning a monkey and keeping them at home is not as easy as 1, 2, 3.
Raising a monkey presents unique challenges as they don’t mature like human children. Monkeys require substantial social interaction and they often resist new people in your life making vacations difficult.
Finding new homes for pet monkeys is highly challenging and deprived of attention. Monkeys develop severe behavioral and psychological issues, including screaming and biting which prove hard to resolve.
Legal issues also arise due to potential illegality, necessitating permits, and possible home inspections. If you live in a community, homeowner policies are sometimes impacted, leading to insurance complications.
Managing medical needs, housing, and behavioral problems are also present. It makes monkeys unsuitable household companions despite their initial appeal.
Despite these underlying issues, people can still legally keep monkeys at home.
Just take a look at this baby monkey named, Bibi.
Bibi and his human family live happily together in their warm home. They also have a YouTube channel called Family BiBi where they post the little monkey’s life adventures and activities with his humans.
Bibi’s human parents have two biological daughters and together, they share activities like cooking, eating, swimming, camping, and a whole bunch more.
But just like any other family, stepping out of their happy home to attend to their responsibilities outside is inevitable. This leaves poor Bibi alone, missing them dearly when they are far from home.
In one of their recent videos, they showed how Bibi missed his human dad so much.
The video starts with excitement filling Bibi as he eagerly awaits his father’s return. Suddenly, the doorbell from their front door rang which made his heart race with anticipation.
He then rushed to the door, hoping the person downstairs was already his human dad. Sadly, disappointment washed over Bibi as the door opened only to find out it was a delivery guy and not his beloved dad.
With a heavy heart, Bibi went back upstairs and waited restlessly. Thankfully, Bibi found comfort in the embrace of his human mom.
Then suddenly, a car pulled over in front of their home, and a familiar figure caught his eye outside the window.
Finally, it’s his dad!
Because of excitement, Bibi’s let out waves of ecstatic screams. And without hesitation, he dashed downstairs with his mother to greet his returning dad.
Outside, Bibi rushed into his father’s arms and welcomed him with a tight hug.
His dad scooped Bibi up and carried him inside. They went straight to their room where his dad showed him his new clothes and spoiled him with some yummy snacks which they all shared together.
Bibi was definitely overflowed with so much affection. Bibi’s relationship with his human family only proves that no animal is naturally bad as long as they are treated, guided, and raised right by their owners.
