Albinism is a special birth defect that affects humans, animals, and even plants, and is caused when someone inherits a trait that interrupts the making of the pigment melanin. Most commonly, an animal with albino features will have white hair, feathers, scales or skin and pink eyes, including the eyelashes and eyebrows.
Albinism is pretty rare, and although numbers aren’t exact, some researchers working with mammals estimate that true albinos occur in about one in 10,000 births. Some albino pack animals are shunned from their groups for looking different- but we think that different is beautiful. And to prove our point, here are 45+ Albino animals who prove that nature makes no mistakes.

1. Stand out against the crowd
This albino turtle is clearly visible amongst a sea of black, and that’s what we love the most about it. We bet he’s the most popular of the group! If this picture proves anything, it’s that sometimes it’s good to be the special one who’s different.
2. White and brown zebra
Is it just us, or does this zebra look as if she has literal gold stripes on her nose? This is truly the most beautiful thing we’ve ever seen, and we can’t help feeling that this zebra is prettier than most humans. Simply stunning.

3. The best of both
Just when we thought ordinary peacocks had already reached maximum levels of glamour, along comes the albino peacock. The pearly white feathers speak for themselves, and when you’re born with half blue and half white feathers, it really couldn’t get any better. We bet this dashing fella has no problem with the ladies.

4. Gorgeous lion
With their thick, glossy manes and majestic faces, lions are already some of the most striking animals in the animal kingdom- but never before have we seen one with such pure white fur before! We don’t know about you, but we love seeing wild animals getting along with humans, especially when they’re as big and dangerous as a lion. We’d love to have a lion best friend.

5. Asnow reindeer
We’ve all heard the story of Rudolph the red nosed reindeer who was deemed as an outcast by the rest of his group- so we hope that this unique creature is more accepted by his friends! Stunning as his fur color is, we can’t imagine how difficult it would be to spot this unique reindeer in the middle of a snowy field. Maybe a glowing red nose would be handy after all!

6. Best of friends
These two buddies may have different fur tones and even different eye colours, but that doesn’t stop them from being totally inseparable. We love how they almost look like the exact replica of each other- just two different colors! This picture could win an award.

7. White alligator
Alligators are known to be masters of disguise, so we feel pretty nervous about how this glossy white guy would manage to conceal himself in the wild. Alligators are normally a dark green color which is the perfect camouflage to hide in their usual forested habitat- but we reckon a white alligator would have to move to colder climates in order to blend in! Either way, we’re sure he’s the envy of all his pals with his beautiful white scales.

8. Have you ever seen a lobster like this before?
Just imagine going to a restaurant where they served a lobster like this? We wonder if the taste would be any different? It looks so cool!

9. Humpback whale
We’ve never heard of albino whales before, and we’re so glad that we’ve finally been introduced to them. How breathtaking would it be to see one of these in real life? It would be a true bucket list experience.
10. Snow white deer
Many albino animals still look pretty distinctive- but we have to admit, we were clueless to the fact that these pretty creatures were in fact deer. What did you see when you first looked at the picture? We were guessing along the lines of a kangaroo.

11. A pretty hedgehog
The problem with albinism, is that as pretty as it looks, the poor albino animals certainly would have a hard time blending into their environment. Luckily for this little guy, he’s just so cute that we’re sure somebody would quickly snap him up as a pet! Just look at that tiny pink nose.

12. A Doberman like you’ve never seen before
Black Dobermans are famous for their powerful and intimidating look, and we think that the white one is the most special dog that we’ve ever seen. What we love the most about the albino animals is their stunning blue eyes. Is it possible to have eye color envy?
13. The blue eyed horse
This horse has eyes that will stare into your soul, and we’re already totally in love. We’d love to comb that glossy white mane and pretend it was our own hair. This horse belongs in a Disney movie.

14. The camo penguin
When we think of a camo animal, most of us would think of animals in shades of green and brown. But when you’re out in the Antarctic, the best animals to camouflage into the snowy backdrop are the white ones. We love this penguin’s unique brown beak.

We first saw the albino deer and thought that they were kangaroos- but it turns out that this is actually what an albino kangaroo looks like! Don’t they just look absolutely adorable? We want one!

17. Albino frogmouth
This bird is so unique looking that it hardly looks real! Although these types of bird are usually called the tawny frogmouth, in this case we would have to assume that the albinos of the bunch are named the white frogmouth. Their eyes are some of the most awesome things we’ve ever seen.
18. Snowy snake
Have you ever seen a snake with blue eyes before? Us neither, and we’re in love with how this slithery little guy looks! We think he’s a lot less creepy looking than regular snakes.

19. Is that a racoon?
It isn’t often that you see an albino racoon, and we’re pretty amazed at what we’re looking at. Racoons are distinguishable by their grey fur and the black rings around their eyes, so if we spotted this albino racoon, we don’t think we’d know what on earth he was! Though we have to admit, he does seem pretty cute.
20. This precious hummingbird
In all honesty, we didn’t have much of a clue what a normal hummingbird looks like, but a quick google told us that they can actually be all different colors of the rainbow- and they’re truly beautiful. With that being said, this pure white hummingbird is still beautiful in his own way, and despite having no colors, he still manages to stand out from the rest!

Despite not looking much like his family, this koala is still as adorable as the rest- possibly even more so (and with koalas, it’s pretty hard to beat). Do we want to give him a big cuddle? Absolutely.

28. A softshell turtle without its original color
If we came across this turtle while swimming in the ocean, we’d think that we’d encountered a ghost! Though luckily, he’s not too creepy. That’s one of the goofiest looking faces we’ve ever seen.

29. A Northern Cardinal minus his stripes
Northern Cardinals are truly beautiful, and with their red and black stripes and red beak, they’re definitely a special bird to spot. And while an albino Northern Cardinal isn’t anywhere near as colorful, we’d bet that bird watchers out there are still just as chuffed to come across one of these beauties!

30. A unique seahorse taking a ride
Seahorses come in many different colors, though they often tend to be a shade of red, orange or brown- meaning that the albino seahorses really stand out from the crowd! All seahorses are beautiful, but this one is in a league of its own.

Strangely, when rats are white, they don’t look half as creepy as the grey ones. Maybe it’s because the snowy white albino rats look more like a mouse or a hamster? We kind of want to pet it.

34. The red-eyed bat
Albino animals often struggle with being out in the sunlight, as their skin pigment can make them very sensitive to the hot weather. So we bet this bat loves nothing more than chilling in dark, enclosed spaces with the rest of his bat friends.

Fishermen in Canada were incredibly surprised to accidentally catch an albino seal in their net. The seal was so white that it had blended with the icy waters. What a catch!

37. A pure white moth
Everyone is aware of a moth’s attraction to any household lightbulb, and we fear that albino moths would be less easy to spot and take back outside. The person who spotted the moth in this picture wasn’t too sure if it was an albino one, or just a type of moth they hadn’t spotted before! But either way, it’s pretty cool looking.

38. A mousy looking groundhog

41. Unique deep-sea manta ray
Admittedly, manta rays are already pretty special in themselves. We love the way that they float through the water as if they don’t weigh a thing! And this ghostly white one must be even more amazing to see in person.

42. A porcupine who’s white instead of brown
Although a porcupine’s fur normally helps them to blend into the brown soil of the forest, we think that this unique white porcupine will be safe and sound- as it looks as if he lives on a farm. It’s probably for the best!
43. A snail with an impressive shell
This land snail looks more like the snails you see in the sea, thanks to his impressive white shell. He stands out more with his white shell, which means that at least it will be less likely for a human to accidentally step on him. But it’s not good news when it comes to being spotted by birds!
