Dogs have the incredible ability of being able to fall asleep anywhere at any time. They can lay down on pretty much any surface and pass out instantly. However, that doesn’t mean that they are immune to interruptions.
That’s what one beagle found out recently when he was forced to awaken from his slumber unexpectedly.
The whole adorable moment was captured in a viral video on the YouTube channel Oliver the Beagle. Since the clip was posted in May of 2019, it has been viewed over three million times and has received tens of thousands of likes. People just can’t get enough of Oliver, the friendly beagle. He has more than 200,000 subscribers!
“Oliver has his own unique way of waking me up in the morning. Watch and see how he does it!” the video description reads.
Technically, the video is titled, “How my beagle wakes me up”.
However, we tend to view it more from the beagle’s perspective. In our opinion, it should actually be titled the opposite — “How my human wakes me up”.
The clip starts with Oliver sound asleep on his owner’s bed at 8:22 AM.
Apparently, the pup does “this” nearly every morning, but it turns out, Oliver is not really doing much of anything. The thing he does almost every morning is sleep and refuse to get out of bed.
The owner speaks quietly so as not to disturb the tired beagle.
“Oliver, is it time to wake up yet?” asks the owner. “What do you think? Do you want to go outside? Do you want to start your day?”
The pup completely ignores the man.
He is not phased at all. Even when he is asked about going outside, it doesn’t even register.
According to the American Kennel Club, dogs can sleep as much as 12 to 14 hours per day. Some puppies might even sleep for 18 to 20 hours a day to recharge after playing. It’s completely normal for them. The other half of the day is spent doing a mix of running around being active, and of course, relaxing. Even with all of that sleep, dogs still need a lot of time to just lay around and chill.
“You just want to sleep some more? Is it time to get up? What do you think?” the owner repeats.
A few minutes later at 8:25 AM, the owner once again tries to wake Oliver up.
This time, the owner finally gets the dog’s attention. Oliver slowly opens his eyes, stands up, and does a big stretch.
The most important part of his waking up routine, however, is shaking off his fur.
It gets matted down when he lies on the bed for too long. The shaking fluffs his fur up a bit and causes his giant ears to flop all over the place. It’s pretty adorable to watch.
Finally, though, it appears as though Oliver is ready to start his day and go outside to pee.
It’s a miracle that dogs can hold it for so long without having to get up and go to the bathroom. Most humans barely last a few hours without making a trip to the toilet. However, not dogs. They are trained from a young age to never go potty inside and it doesn’t even phase them.
Obviously, what’s most important to them is sleep. It’s so important, in fact, that Oliver quickly changes his mind. Going to the bathroom can wait until later. He is still tired and wants to go back to bed. He crawls under the covers, lies down, and instantly passes out again.
“Okay, I guess we’ll go back to sleep,” Oliver’s owner jokes, and that’s where the video ends.
