Beagles are a fantastic dog breed. They’re fun and affectionate, and the kind of breed that form strong bonds with their “parents”. I mean, just look at Snoopy! Real beagles however are rarely quite so aloof, and if you spend time away from them, you will get one heck of a welcome back! When Lola the beagle’s dad went away for three months, he thought it would be fun to surprise her.
He must have known that Lola would lose her mind! And it’s all caught in one adorable video!
The beagle’s main asset as a breed, is of course their noses.
As Dogtime.com explains:
“Their noses guide them through life, and they’re never happier than when following an interesting scent. The Beagle originally was bred as a scenthound to track small game, mostly rabbits and hare.”
That’s what makes these dogs perfect for being “sniffer dogs” at border controls, although their friendly nature can mean that they aren’t always all business.
So of course, before Lola even sees that her dad had returned, she sniffs his luggage and clothes…but does she even believe her nose?
Following her nose, she tentatively senses that her dad is just under the blankets.
But you can see that she still remains skeptical that he has in fact returned. Could it be? Could Daddy really be home? It’s not clear why he had to be away for so long, but it’s obvious that he was missed the whole time!
She begins to wag her tail as she gets increasingly excited.
Although she’s reserved about even believing that Daddy’s home, her tail belies her. It starts wagging feverishly as she hones in on the scent that is toying with her emotions.
And when Dad emerges from under the covers, she loses her mind!
You know that thing that dogs do when they get overexcited? How they just don’t know what to do with themselves and they can only bounce or roll around?
Well that’s Lola when she sees her dad in the flesh.
She freaks out and spasmodically rolls all over her beloved man.
She furiously cuddles him as he talks to her, trying to calm her down.
It’s clear that the excitement is mutual, and Dad is equally happy to be cuddling his furry little girl again.
It’s such a heartwarming reunion, and if you don’t have a dog, this video will make you want one.
I’m not crying, you’re crying! This video is so heart-melting that if you were on the fence about liking dogs, seeing Lola and her dad reunited will knock you cleanly off that fence for sure!
Once she settles down from going insane, she cries affectionately.
While beagles are known for their baying howls, Lola resorts to only a whimpering cry. Just as people cry with joy, dogs apparently do too.
It sounds like she’s upset but it’s nothing but pure joy coming from Lola.
