Cynthia Bennet and her boyfriend are avid hikers. And 4 years ago, they decided to add a furry member to their family— a rescue dog named Henry. The couple had been originally planning to get a golden retriever mix, but when Cynthia met Henry at a local adoption event, she immediately fell in love.

“He just curled up into my lap and went belly up and flipped his head over my arm,” Cynthia told The Dodo. “And from then, I decided that he was coming with us.”

The new family started taking Henry on their hiking adventures, nicknaming him their ‘little mountain goat’.

The couple fell so in love with Henry, they quickly decided to get another pet.

“I really wanted a rescue kitten,” Cynthia said. “I’d looked for five months and I saw lots of different kittens, but none of them really had the right personality or fit. I knew that I wanted to take him anywhere—camping, hiking.”

When they came across Baloo, a Siamese mix kitten, after five months of searching, they knew he was the one. “He ran right up to me. And he was the one who played, but he wasn’t the most rowdy.”

Although Baloo quickly fell in love with his new family, he seemed to love Henry the most. As soon as they met, Baloo wanted to play and snuggle with the pup. He even refused to be left behind when Henry got to go on fun hiking adventures.

“If I touch Henry’s leash, [Baloo] will start screaming at the door,” Cynthia told The Dodo. “He’s very vocal.”

Henry and Baloo love each other and have a blast exploring the world together.

By day, the two hiking friends conquer unseen lands.

And by night, they cuddle and rest for the next big adventure.

Cynthia gets a lot of questions asking how she got Baloo used to exploring outside, but she says the cat’s just a natural outdoorsman. “He really loves it,” she said. “He really wants to go outside.”

And although Cynthia refers to the pair as brothers, Baloo seems to think Henry is his mom.

“[Baloo] constantly looks for a teat,” Cynthia explained. “So he’ll go and you can tell he’s looking because he’s nuzzling under Henry’s armpit.”

“Henry has become the best big brother and always checks on [Baloo] to make sure he is doing okay. He couldn’t be fitting into our little family any better, and we just love him to the moon and back.”
