Cats show their affection by bringing “yummy gifts” to their owner. Apparently, they think we can’t hunt, so they’re trying to give us a few pointers. That’s what Baloo the cat was doing for her beloved owner Ben when she started to realize that maybe her presents weren’t truly being appreciated.

This is Baloo. Every morning, she got into the habit of lavishing her owner Ben with luxurious gifts. i.e. small rodents and birds.

Every morning, Baloo would go on the hunt, determined to take bring a “yummy” token of affection back to her beloved Daddy.

Owner Ben told The Dodo, “I’d wake up to her on my chest with something in her mouth, which she would then drop on my face or chest and then meow.”

Because Baloo is such a skilled hunter, most of her prey was still alive and uninjured— leaving Ben to hunt down the presents himself.

“After a while, it started getting a bit annoying having half-dead animals dropped on your chest every morning,” he told Hawaii News Now. “So, I would moan at her and then throw her present out the window.”

Baloo couldn’t understand why her Dad was rejecting these thoughtful gifts. “She always looked so confused and sad, which made me feel pretty bad,” he said.

After a few months of having her gifts rejected, Baloo came to the realization that maybe Dad didn’t really like what she was bringing him.

She decided to try a different approach:

“It took a couple of months of me rejecting her gifts for her to start bringing me leaves. They were always big, nice looking leaves,” Ben said. “It was such a relief from the live mice every morning that I would show my gratitude by taking the leaf and playing with it while she sat on my chest. She knew she was doing something right now.”

Baloo had received Ben’s message loud and clear. From then on, instead of live mice and birds, she would hunt him down the biggest, most perfect leaf she could get her paws on.

“She will hop up onto me, push me back so I lay down and then just sit on my chest purring like mad and nuzzling my face with her nose.”

“It warms my heart thinking about her on a little mission each morning to find a gift for her human.”
