If you think dogs and cats are the only animals that get the zoomies… think again.

One of the baby rhinos at the San Diego Zoo has been zipping all around his habitat.

The little baby has definitely been keeping his mom on his toes.

The rhino calf’s little run was also caught on video and viewed more than 588,000 times on TikTok.

“If you blink, you might miss him,” the video’s caption states.

We see the calf flying back and forth, kicking up dust behind him. His poor mom does her best to keep up and try to get him to slow down.

But she realized the futility of chasing after him.

“I FELT that ‘slowly walking after the child because I’m exhausted’ walk,” one TikTok commenter wrote.

“He must have something he’s not supposed to. Lol,” said another.

The baby rhino, however, is very agile.

“165 lbs. of aerodynamic perfection,” the video reads.

The way he revs up and just gallops along is too cute.

“Cutest thing I’ve seen today. Just adorable! Mom has a wild one on her hands,” a TikTok commenter writes.

The San Diego Zoo prefers to think of these creatures as “chubby unicorns.”

The San Diego Zoo Safari Park holds a record for most rhinos born in a zoo. There have been 187 rhinos born there, including five generations of black rhinos and seven generations of one-horned rhinos.

The zoo is one of the world’s leaders in white rhino breeding.

They use scientific research to guide nutrition and reproductive health practices within their herds.

“Our ultimate goal is to not create a single northern white rhino but to reintroduce an entire herd into their historic range,” ” Paul Baribault, President and CEO of the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance, said.

Rhinos usually live about 40 to 45 years. Mom usually gives birth to only one rhino at a time after being pregnant for 15 to 16 months. Sometimes they give birth to twins though it is rare.

A rhino can weigh up to 88 to 140 lbs. when they are born and mature between the ages of 5 and 6 for females and 7 to 8 years for males. Rhinos can grow 12 to 13 feet in length with smaller rhinos coming in at 8 t 10 ft.

The heaviest rhinos will weigh about 5,000 lbs. with the lightest rhinos coming in at 1,765 lbs.

Some rhinos grow more or longer horns than others. A black rhino’s horn can grow up to 4 feet in length. The rhino has an ancient lineage, and its ancestors were on Earth 55 million years ago.

One of their ancestors was 25 f. long and 18 ft. high at its shoulder. Over the eons, more than 100 rhino species have been identified.

Only five exist today. Two of them are native to Africa and three are native to Asia. Though they are massive in size, they are still quick. A black rhino can run at speeds of 40 mph.
