Who doesn’t love puppies and who doesn’t love babies? Babies of any species really are a cute sight and they are difficult to resist. Now, what about a combination of puppies and babies? That’s probably one of the most heartwarming things to see!
Puppies, just like human babies, are small and sweet and oh so vulnerable, curious about everything that’s going on around them and so delicate. When puppies meet human babies, then it is likely a strong friendship is starting.
In the video that follows, a sweet baby is meeting the new family puppy for the first time. The puppy looks like a golden retriever and it is super cute and patient with the baby. The little ones are trying to explore each other, while they have no idea what they are looking at or what they are supposed to do.
The puppy looks quite submissive, while the human baby can’t contain her excitement. The baby at first squeezes the puppy’s face in her hands in an attempt to approach the animal and show it that the two can be friends. The puppy acts positively to this initiative, and goes on to lick the baby’s face. Then the baby takes off her pacifier, but makes a point of not giving in to the dog’s attempt to lick it or take it from her hands.
The two of them then look around in an attempt to figure out what is going on, how they are expected to react and what is going to happen next.
The baby keeps trying to pet the puppy, although her movements are more likely to scare the little animal away, and the puppy patiently lets her do it, until the baby grabs the dog from its fur and it looks like it’s pulling it. Obviously, the baby just wanted to play and had no idea the puppy wasn’t very happy with this fur-pulling, but the puppy decided to leave for a while so the baby realizes what she did was wrong.
The video really melted our hearts, and it made us think that puppies can make the best of friends for human babies, toddlers and children, given that they are introduced to each other properly and smoothly.
In this case, both are of a very young age, which can prove either catastrophic or very helpful for the socialization of the two. Babies sometimes act in ways that puppies misinterpret- cries and crawling remind them of prey and it can lead them to wrong conclusions about the baby- but there still are things about babies that make puppies excited- like their smell of milk, baby food, and even poop!
Introducing a new puppy to a baby is momentous and it should be carefully planned and executed in a way that both parties feel comfortable, loved and safe.
We are glad the first meeting between these two went so well and we are sure that, by now, they are best friends!
