A baby koala was found in a man’s backyard and suddenly mistook his dog for his lost mother. The hilarious interaction was all caught on videotape.

Growing up can be a long journey of self-discovery. It takes a couple of times to get it right the first time, but it’s so worth it once we outgrow our struggles. For some, that struggle is realizing who their real momma is from their adopted one. In Australia, a cute baby koala hinges on the back of a doggo simply because it has confused the dog for its mom!

On October 6, 2019, a man by the name of Henry was in his backyard in Adelaide, South Australia when suddenly an almost infant koala latched on to his dog’s back. The pooch hollered in amazement as he was being confused for someone’s mother. The dog, Tony, would never imagine the series of events that would soon follow.

Tony the dog has no idea what’s going on. His marsupial friend seems to just want a little bit of body warmth and something to hold on to. But Tony looks like he’s not the type to give free rides.

He frequently tries to take a look at the furry interloper to get an idea of what’s going on. Tony clearly realizes his rights are being infringed upon and so looks like he is demanding to seek some answers from his human.

Overall, Tony is seen to take the surprise with ease. He’s very tolerant of the baby koala and doesn’t seem to actually be aggravated about the situation. The entire sight is just too adorable for words alone.

Although koala’s are many times referred to as “bears”, they are in fact not members of the Ursidae family of mammals which bears belong to. Instead, they are herbivorous marsupials that are very similar to wombats and kangaroos.

Koala’s babies are about the size of a bee and very much blind when they are first born. They have to spend the first six months snuggled close to their mom in order to develop properly. They depend entirely on eucalyptus leaves by consuming an average of 2.5 pounds a day.

Additionally, the strong scent coming from eucalyptus plants wards off nearby predators due to the distinct and piercing smell of the eucalyptus oil.

Finally, Tony managed to get the baby koala off his back by rolling for a bit after which the adorable marsupial scurried back into the wild in search of its true mom. Well that was a ride for the young doggo!

Henry, who videotaped the entire scene, saw that the koala acts entirely independent of its mom. It’s a good thing Tony sought to keep a peaceful relationship and quickly adjust to having the baby koala on his back. For the brief time these two got to know each other, I’d say they had a pretty good first impression of each other.

It seemed the baby koala really needed some love and attention. This is a good time to mention that there are many wildlife animals who end up rescued away from their packs, and so they require to be given extra care and attention.

It’s important that we are aware of the situation so that if we may encounter an animal in distress, we can be well equipped with the knowledge to know what to do.

We wish this furry friend the best of luck and if you ever see a baby koala in peril, make sure to give it some help like Henry did in the video below.
