Rottweilers might not be the first breed you envision when you think of a warm, cuddly pet.

Their large size, strength, and appearance, particularly when they bare their sharp teeth, are some of the reasons they’re often chosen as guard dogs.

This might lead some to believe that Rottweilers and infants are a dangerous combination.

However, this isn’t always the case!

Some Rottweilers are simply wonderful.

Consider the case of this charming 9-month-old baby boy who has already become an expert at snuggling with his Rottweiler best friend!

Parents often have reservations about having a large dog around their small child, and rightly so.

The safety of their child is always paramount.

However, not all big dogs are problematic.

In fact, many Rottweilers behave like cuddly toy breeds and would be utterly devastated if you suggested otherwise!

Peopole have come to understand that it’s not the breed of the dog, but how they’re raised, trained, and cared for that shapes their behavior.

The Rottweiler in this story is a perfect example of a goofy, lovable dog who means no harm.

Even when the curious baby boy pokes and prods her, this adorable Rottweiler remains as calm and patient as any dog can be.

When the little one reaches out to pet her, she does what any good dog would do – she lifts her head towards his hands and seems to ask for more!

The American Kennel Club states, “A well-bred and properly raised Rottie will be calm and confident, courageous but not unduly aggressive.

The aloof demeanor these world-class guardians present to outsiders belies the playfulness, and downright silliness, that endear Rotties to their loved ones.”

The bond between these two is clearly both endearing and playful.

Rottweilers have a long history of getting along well with children.

However, as the AKC points out, it’s crucial to train them early on.

“Early training and socialization will harness a Rottie’s territorial instincts in a positive way.”

It’s also important for parents to always supervise their children around dogs, even small ones like a toy Chihuahua.

Children sometimes don’t realize their own strength, which can irritate even the most patient of pets!

Rottweilers can be a bit clumsy, especially as puppies, but the good news is that they’re highly trainable and, above all, they absolutely adore their humans!

“Rottweilers are ‘people dogs’ who do not do well isolated from humans and life experiences.”
