“Mother is the name for God in the lips and hearts of little children.” says William Makepeace Thackeray
Probably true. A mother would move mountains for her children. In fact, they would brave even the deepest waters for them. Just like this mother duck when she saw her babies stuck in a pool. No way was she going to leave them.
No one knows how these ten ducklings got in to the pool. It may have very well been a family outing in which they wanted to go for a swim. Either way, these ten kids are stuck and can’t get out. Help, mom!
No lifeguards on duty? Mom doesn’t need them!
She jumps right in and swims to her children eventually leading them to another corner of the pool where she shows them how to jump out. But the ducklings can’t make the jump. They’re not that strong yet!
That wall is pretty high for kids, mom. Now we get it, she was probably showing off those strong muscles like most swimmers do, but come on. It would take a super athlete to make that jump.
We’re sensing a bit of a panic in those ducklings, and mom does too.
She jumps back in as quickly as she can and using her head this time, leads her kids to the steps. Much shallower, lower height, easier to jump. Not really. The ducklings still struggle to make it up there. Can’t blame the little guys, those legs must be really tired from all that swimming.
Finally, some help!
A man arrives with a pool skimmer. He tries to help by extending the skimmer hoping to get the ducklings on the net so he can give them a boost up and out of the water. But momma duck is too nervous!
She waddles around, frantic and nearly panicking at the sight of her stranded ducklings. The man tries to get the net under the ten ducklings but mother duck went on the defensive, jumping out of her feathers, quacking in indignation at the rescuer. Relax, mom!
Some progress, as the man is able to get some of the ducklings out. But for some reason, the kids are jumping back in. Go figure. One of them even gets stuck in the jacuzzi area. Kids.
All that effort by the man, wasted. Seems like the ducklings want the rescuing to be done by mom, and only mom.
One more try. Mom leads her kids back to the pool steps where the men must have placed a few lava rocks to act as an extra step for the smaller Anatidae. Mom steps on a rock and waddles out.
It’s working!
One by one, slowly but surely, the ducklings climb out of the water. One of the kids struggles to make it out, stumbling here and there, but eventually, after persevering, the duckling jumps out. That’s a strong runt!
The last one runs as fast as his little duckling webbed feet will take him, chasing after his family who are already making their way off in a single file. Typical duck fashion. Still… Goes to show that moms are amazing. Also, they really do walk funny.
