When it comes down to it, animals aren’t all that different from us humans. They feel and experience emotions like we do, and the longer you spend with an animal, the easier it is to pick up on how they’re feeling. Each animal has their own little personality, and while some are shy, others wear their hearts- and their emotions- on their sleeves. If you’re looking to brighten up your day, then here are 50 animals who are so expressive their faces tell a whole story.
1. I feel like this cat is judging me
Is it just a trick of the light, or does this judgemental looking cat have two different eye colors? As the creepy old man who works at your local market would say: “Smile, pretty girl!”
Meanwhile, the cat is thinking: “Servant, you’re late with my dinner again! It should have been placed in front of me precisely two minutes ago.”
2. “Maybe if I stick my tongue out and close my eyes they won’t notice me.”
This otter looks like he’s in the middle of photobombing a stranger’s picture and we’re living for it. Have you ever seen something so adorable? Also, who knew their tongues were that long?
3. “I can’t believe that just happened.”
If you’re looking for an expressive dog, then you can’t get much more emotional than this little guy. The Baconator has built up quite an impressive following on Instagram, and it’s not hard to see why. His face is totally meme-worthy!
4. “Spill the tea girl”
From the look on this orangutan’s face, she’s just been told some juicy gossip. We wonder what tea was spilled? We feel like we’re missing out by not knowing.
5. “Something doesn’t seem right.”
We don’t ever think we’ve seen a skeptical looking cow until this day. We wonder what she’s so suspicious about? Also, on a side note, we never thought we’d be envious of a cow’s eyelashes.
6. Those eyes
He might be giving us his best cross-eyed look, but he’s still one of the most beautiful cats we’ve ever seen! Just look at those gorgeous blue eyes. They’re enough to melt anyone’s heart.
7. 2020 in a photo
This is one of those photos that you can actually hear. This seal’s silent scream is honestly how we all felt as 2020 came to a close. It can only get better, right?
8. Play time
That’s a look of mischief if we ever did see one. This playful little monkey is having the most fun as she rides on top of her mom’s back. It reminds us of when you give a little kid a piggyback. Pure joy.
9. “What you lookin’ at?”
Is it just us who finds kangaroos weirdly intimidating? This little guy looks as if he’s all too ready to start a fight, and we wouldn’t want to be the person standing directly in front of him. “Whatchu lookin’ at, punk?”
10. “Did someone say cheese?”
From an aggressive kangaroo to one of the happiest looking hamsters we’ve ever seen. From our limited experience with hamsters, we honestly just thought that they spent most of their time sleeping. Who knew that they can be as cheeky and adorable as this little cutie?
11. Fed. Up.
This is the second photo we’ve spotted that accurately sums up our feelings about 2020. In fact, this pig is a pretty accurate representation of how we look, too. Wearing 3-day old sweatpants, stuffing our faces with leftover Christmas chocolate, and just daring someone to call us out about it.
12. A snuggly guinea pig
We’re actually pretty jealous of this guinea pig’s cozy-looking bed. Any room for us to come in for cuddles? We’re sure this happy little guy would have no objections.
13. The fluffiest
It’s like this adorable pair are posing for a family photo. Someone sign them for a modelling contract! America’s Next Top Model, here they come.
14. Full of joy
Elephants are actually pretty emotional animals and are among the most exuberantly expressive of creatures. They often show us when they’re feeling emotions like joy, grief, love, and compassion. In fact, the emotional attachment elephants form toward family members may rival our own as humans.
15. “I do not approve.”
This funny monkey is like the judgemental aunt of your family – always there to criticize your decisions but never seems to be doing much for herself. Whether it be the clothes that you’re wearing, your career choices, or the type of friends you hang around with, this monkey has always got something to say about it.
16. Peek-a-boo
Even pandas like to play and goof around every so often. That little tongue is so flippin’ adorable! Do you think he’d let us give him a cuddle?
17. Tongue blep
Is it us, or does this turtle look like someone’s grandad? After munching on a tasty treat, he thought he’d stick his tongue out at his owner to show just how much he enjoyed it. What a little cutie.
18. Sad polar bear
We don’t know what he’s sad about, just we just want to take it away from him! We know that polar bears are actually pretty aggressive animals, but we can’t help feeling sorry for him when we saw this picture. We wish that we could give him a cuddle.
19. “Hey there, ladies!”
This lizard is one suave guy, and he sure knows how to get the ladies. He has his tinder profile pic pose perfected, and it works every time. We’re not surprised that he’s actually an Instagram influencer.
20. Owlin’ around
This owl is not amused, and she wants everyone to know about it. She sort of reminds us of an old, strict high school teacher, and we’re getting nervous just looking at her. Did we do our homework?
21. “Trying to teach my daughter to hold the cat properly and captured this gem.”
The poor cat just wants to live her life on her terms- but instead, she’s being almost crushed to death by a 2-year-old. Her face says it all. “Let me down!!!”
22. “Ahhhh! You’re doing me a big fright! I’m heckin outta here!!!!!”
Small dogs always seem to pick fights with bigger dogs (we’ll blame it on the Small Dog Syndrome) but hilariously, it’s the bigger of the two who often ends up getting spooked. Despite being twice his size, the dog on the left clearly isn’t down for having a fight. Luckily, the other two dogs in the background seem to be on their way to sort things out.
23. Not impressed
From the disapproving look on his face, this cat looks as if he’s just been asked if he wants a bath. Or maybe how he likes his new healthy cat biscuits. If you want the answer, just look at his face.
24. “Bacon? Did somebody say bacon?”
This dog looks shocked, curious, and excited all in one go, so that could only mean one thing: somebody has mentioned food. The cocked-back ear is waiting patiently for any signs of rustling coming from the pantry. He’ll sleep with one eye open until he gets a piece of that delicious bacon.
25. Not in the mood
Sometimes, cats can go in a bad mood for absolutely no reason at all-and if that ever happens, then you should abort your ideas of petting them. It’s best to leave them alone until they’ve had either a full bowl of food or approximately 1 hour’s rest. It’s either that or say goodbye to your fingers.
26. Happy as larry
If someone ever tries to tell you that birds can’t smile, then don’t hesitate to show them this picture. They’re like two very happy peas in a pod. Simply adorable.
27. “What did you get me?”
This is our exact reaction when we open our gifts on Christmas day. Why is it always so uncomfortable to open your presents when you know a room full of people are watching you? It’s like you have to act extra appreciative.
28. Play time
We don’t speak dog, but we’re pretty confident that this is what’s going through the dog’s head right at this second: “Omg, omg, omg, Frisbee, coming my way! Omg! What do I do? Should I catch it? Absolutely! OMG!”
29. An angry dog standing upright
Chances are that you’ve seen this angry dog photo circulating round the internet. It’s a great shot to use in a meme. We wonder what he was so mad about?
30. “The same thing we do every night pinky”
This is a cunning lizard if we ever did see one. He looks exactly like he’s plotting something, and his owners should be slightly concerned. “It’s cute how humans still believe they run the world…”
31. “My friend is a pet groomer and had a very angry customer.”
Cats hate baths, so we feel for any groomer who has the task of washing one of them. Cats are normally great at grooming themselves with their tongues, but every so often, some of the long-furred cats might need a bit of extra TLC. She doesn’t look happy in the slightest.
32. A happy fox
It’s hard to believe that foxes can be quite aggressive animals when we see pictures like this. They’re just do darn cute! We wish we could keep one as a pet.
33. “I ate the grumpy cat”
It’s not just cats who hate bath times, you know. Some dogs also aren’t a fan of getting their fur wet, and boy will you know about it. This adorable pup looks like a sulking child. The water hasn’t even started yet and he’s already plotting his revenge.
34. The cutest
This painting tells no lies- and to prove it to you, here is the smiley little pup sitting directly underneath! Our hearts honestly can’t take how adorable he looks. Do you think he’s smiling like this all the time?
35. His first ever walk
Is there anything more exciting as a puppy than going on your first ever walk? This adorable little guy simply can’t wipe the smile off his face. Puppies are the best!
36. “My friend’s dog is scared of everything”
This picture is an accurate representation of everyone who has celebrated a birthday past the age of 30. “How can I be 45 already?” It gets to a point where you just wish people would stop celebrating it with you.
37. Cannonball!
Kittens sleep in some odd positions, but this has to be one of the most unique sleeping positions that we’ve ever seen. Look at that little smile though! He must be having a great dream.
38. “The heck did you just heckin say about me, you smol heck?”
Oh, we do love the animal bathtime photos. We know we shouldn’t laugh, but some of these expressions are absolutely hilarious! Someone get him out and dry him off, quick.
39. “My dog bought an Xbox with all the half chewed bones he’s been saving for the last three years!”
The cat looks terrified, while the dog looks crazy excited. Do you think he’s playing some kind of cat exterminator game? We’ve never been so intrigued as to what’s actually going on.
40. Ridiculously photogenic Leopard Gecko
He knows how to seduce the ladies, that’s for sure. Look at that cheeky smile and wink! Where did he learn to do that from?
41. A waving seal
This seal knows all of her best angles, and you better believe she’s going to work those poses, honey. Quick wave for the paparazzi? Oh, alright then.
42. Sad doggo
This photograph was done by Vincent Lagrange, a photographer from Antwerp, Belgium. “I tried to photograph the animals as humans, depicting their emotion and human-like characteristics,” he explained. We’re just glad that this dog isn’t actually as sad as he looks.
43. Fed up doggo
This is another shot by Vincent, and while his work is undoubtedly amazing, we can’t help wondering why these photos are all depicting sad emotions. It breaks our hearts to see these little doggos looking so down in the dumps. Can we have a happy picture, please?
44. Sneezing doggo?
Last show from Vincent, and this dog appears to be sneezing. He looks so goofy and adorable! Now that’s more like it.
45. The look of love
Is there any feeling more special than bringing your pet home for the first time? This cat’s little face clearly says, “Thank you for choosing me and I will love you forever and always! You’re my human dad now and I choose you as well.”
46. “We Brought Charlie Home A Month Ago Now And I Can’t Get Over That Look Of Pure Love In His Eyes.”
That smile. That look. Dogs really do have such profound facial expressions! You could never miss that intense look of love.
47. Happy little soul
Nothing and nobody – not even your mum – can love you like your dog does. We love seeing bonds like this. You can definitely see both the dog and the human truly care about each other.
48. “Just adopted this little guy”
One of the best things about adopting a pet is that somehow they seem to know they’ve been rescued. You can totally see how thankful he is. And he knows he will never be in that shelter again!
49. When your co-worker won’t stop talking…
His eyes have glazed over. In his mind, he is happily chasing a bunny through lush fields of clover. And this is exactly like us when our co-worker is talking to us about her fifth diet plan of the year.
50. Monday mornings.
This is when we’re at a store and ready to check out, but there’s a long line, and the person at the front is telling a long story to the cash register. Tired, hungry, and done with the day already. We knew we should have just done click and collect.
