Animal shelter creates ‘real-life’ living room to show off their dogs’ personalities
This is the next level of comfort for shelter animals. The concept of a “living room” for shelter dogs might make a difference in the current image of animal shelters.

An animal shelter is a place where strays, abandoned, and surrendered animals stay before they are waiting for someone to take them to their fur-ever homes. It’s a good thing that there are places like these all over the world, but can we really be sure that the animals are safe and comfortable inside? I don’t think so.

Not all shelters provide the best comfort for these animals.

Animals that are found on the streets or even pets that are no longer wanted by their owners (due to not meeting someone’s standards) are handed over to shelters and placed in cages. The cages are lined with blankets to keep them warm, but there are no actual beds to sleep on or any other comfort to be found.

Shelter.

On the bright side, some shelters go above and beyond to get their animals ready for their forever home.

A certain Ohio shelter us how it’s done. Toledo Humane Society makes sure that their shelter animals are in their best condition while waiting for their future owners. Furthermore, they were the first to create a ‘real-life’ room for their animals to prepare them for the real world.

The ‘real-life’ room.

Toledo Humane Society renovated an old office room into a mini-living room for the animals. The room resembles a standard living room.

It is designed with a couple of pieces of furniture namely, a one-person couch, a floor rug, a dog bed, a lamp, an “All You Need is Love and a Dog” wall décor, and even a TV. It is their way of letting their shelter dogs experience what it’s like living in an actual home.

In this fun rec room, the only thing missing is an actual family. This little simulation also helps the staff determine their different quirks and personalities so adopters could find it easier for them to choose the perfect pet.

Several shelter dogs have been given the chance to try out this “real-life room.” Toledo Humane Society posted several photos and of their satisfied pooches on their Facebook page. You can see how much comfortable their dogs were and some didn’t hesitate in showing their real personalities.

This room is their escape from the noisy kennels, especially for fearful dogs, as they can relax in this wide and comfy space without interruptions. One of the featured dogs is an adorable pittie named Jake, which got adopted after his fur-mom found a photo of him in the “real-life room.”

Other shelters should adopt this genius idea.

There are plenty of animal shelters around the world, and surely by adopting this idea, it would make the image of shelters better to the public. Sure, it would cost a bit to turn a whole room into this than just letting the animals stay in their cages, but it’s worth the investment especially when shelters are meant to give these animals the comfort they needed.

Hopefully, more shelters will be encouraged to this. Watch the whole video and learn more about animal shelters and why it is highly recommended should we adopt from these institutions rather than buy in the pet store.
