Imagine being a delivery driver and instead of a dog by the gate, it’s something else.
An Amazon delivery man found himself in one of the most bizarre and dangerous situations imaginable.
But what was more amazing was how the delivery man handled the entire ordeal.
He knew just what to do.
We often see signs on some gates saying “beware of dog” or “this is monitored by a CCTV”. But in one California home, the wildlife is making itself at home.
“Stop, stop right now!”
That’s what a delivery man from Amazon heard as he approached the large gates of a house in Upland, California.
The man was thinking it was just his usual package drop until he received an ominous warning.
“Stop, stop right now.”
The voice on the intercom repeated as the automatic gates opened slowly.
“There’s a bear right there. That’s a bear, back away!”
When the delivery man realized what was happening, it was already too late.
He is a sprint away from his vehicle, and the gate’s opening is wide enough for the bear to barrel through.
The homeowner was watching the entire situation through an app.
The owner was out shopping.
And even with his voice laced with worry, he can’t do much but warn the delivery guy.
At that point, the bear was still hiding behind the wall and it was only a matter of time before they saw eye to eye.
You can see the delivery guy stop and back away a bit, trying to contemplate what to do next.
Then, the bear climbed up the wall and peeked towards the gate.
There’s no way for us to hear what the delivery guy was thinking at that point but we’re pretty sure it’s along the lines of, “Yup, that’s a bear, alright.”
“Go back to your car, that’s fine!”
The homeowner can be heard saying, wanting the delivery guy out of harm’s way.
But the courier has a different idea.
Instead of turning his back to the bear, he raised both arms over his head to make himself appear bigger.
His maneuver is one of the most popular tips in wilderness survival.
In addition to this maneuver, there are also things that you need to remember when you found yourself in a similar situation, most especially in the wild.
According to the National Parks Service, you need to stay calm first and foremost.
Avoid sudden movements and don’t run.
Move slowly away and sideways until you’re at a safe distance.
Compared to guns, bear sprays are much more effective. In the wild, always carry one with you.
But what if you’re in a residential area and a bear is inside a client’s property?
Well, the maneuver seemed to work.
The bear leaped off the wall and ran away from the property. The owners of the property were both nervous and impressed at how everything unfolded.
They even commented that he deserves a raise after what he has done.
As for the delivery guy? He walked right up to their door and left their package as if he didn’t scare off a bear just moments ago.
If that’s not brave, we don’t know what is!
