In the world of animal rescue, stories of survival against all odds are not uncommon.

Though the tale of a tiny albino puppy named Lucky is one that truly stands out.

Born the smallest of his litter, Lucky was discovered in the yard of a backyard breeder who showed no concern for his well-being or that of his siblings.

“I wasn’t sure if he would make it,” said Clanay Reza, the woman who would eventually become Lucky’s forever mom.

“All the other puppies had passed away, and I thought, ‘Who knows if this one will survive the night.'”

But Lucky, whose name was not chosen lightly, proved to be a fighter.

He was the only one in his litter who had the strength and determination to survive.

Lucky was less than a day old when a neighbor heard his cries for help. The neighbor’s dog was outside when she stumbled upon the newborn puppies.

The breeder, who had no interest in the puppies now that he couldn’t profit from them, handed them over to the concerned woman without a second thought.

Upon hearing about the puppies, Clanay offered to foster them.

“If you need a foster, or you need help with the rescue, let me know, I’ll come get them,” she said.

The puppies were so small when Clanay brought them home, they resembled baby hamsters more than dogs.

Lucky was the smallest of the bunch, and Clanay feared he wouldn’t survive.

But she decided to give him a fighting chance.

Tragically, Lucky’s siblings didn’t make it, leaving him the sole survivor of this backyard breeding tragedy.

Clanay was determined not to let Lucky meet the same fate.

“I need to do everything I can. I can’t let this dog die on me, like all the other dogs have passed away. He can’t go,” she resolved.

Lucky proved to be a fighter.

Despite struggling to latch onto a bottle, he showed a strong will to drink, lapping up small droplets of liquid from a syringe.

It wasn’t until he was a week old that Clanay allowed herself to believe that Lucky might actually pull through.

Two weeks later, Lucky began to stand, walk, and open his eyes. Clanay set a new goal: “Let me just get him to 8 weeks old, and you know, we’ll be good.”

Lucky continued to grow and even started playing with toys three times his size.

However, Lucky’s journey wasn’t without challenges.

At two weeks old, Clanay discovered that Lucky was blind.

At four months old, he had to have an eye removed.

But Lucky adapted to his new life as a one-eyed puppy with ease.

His permanent wink only added to his charm.

Lucky, who is also albino, has to wear sunblock and goggles when he goes outside. But these minor inconveniences don’t dampen his spirits.

Clanay says that Lucky is a happy, cuddly dog who doesn’t let anything hold him back.

Even when he’s sick, he’s still wagging his tail.

Despite the odds stacked against him from birth, Lucky is now a happy and healthy 2-year-old dog.
