You can tell a lot about a dog from the environment it’s living in. If a dog is well-behaved and friendly, then you’ll know immediately that it’s being taken care of in a positive and loving environment. But what about those aggressive dogs?
A dog’s aggression comes from many things.

There are different causes of what makes a dog aggressive. They could inhibit aggression because they are sick, they’re being territorial, or maybe they’re just trying to protect you.
However, fear is also a common factor in dogs becoming aggressive. Also, fear comes from the people and the home that a dog is currently in. Therefore, if you see that your dogs are being aggressive, it is best to check on yourself first and see how you treat them.
This dog was surrendered to the shelter because he was “too aggressive.”
A big dog named Brutus was left in a shelter alongside a note about him. The note read:
“We’ve decided to surrender Brutus. His behavior is uncontrollable, and we do not feel safe in the house with him. We don’t take this decision lightly, but last night was awful and we cannot do this any longer.”
A foster came to volunteer to meet Brutus.
Lee Asher from Oregon offers a lot of foster services and when he heard the news of this “aggressive dog” at the shelter, he couldn’t help but become curious to meet him. He went to the shelter not knowing what to expect from Brutus. He really wanted to see for himself if the previous owner’s description of him was true.
They couldn’t be any more wrong.
When Asher finally got to see Brutus, the pooch doesn’t seem to be afraid to waltz into the room. Brutus entered the room with a wagging tail as if he’s expecting something good inside. Asher and Brutus locked eyes but Brutus did not show any sign of fear or aggression.
Instead, the pooch was already acting friendly towards Asher, a person whom he was meeting for the first time. Brutus wagged his tail and kissed Asher the whole time they were at the shelter. Seeing this interaction just makes you wonder why anyone would say that he’s an aggressive dog when he’s this sweet, giant fur-ball.
Just to make sure, Asher tried introducing him to the family.
Since Asher has done a lot of fostering, he has a lot of dogs with different sizes and personalities staying at his home. He decided to introduce the smaller, yet more vocal ones to Brutus. If Brutus was really as aggressive as his previous owner said, surely he wouldn’t be able to stand the loud yapping of Asher’s Chihuahua, Kai.
Surprisingly, that wasn’t the case at all. Brutus was fairly gentle to Kai and you could see him try his best to get Kai to like him. Since that time, Asher moved on to introducing him to the bigger dogs, but every attempt already tells you that his previous owners were so wrong about him.
“I’m not keeping him.”
Asher told himself that repeatedly while driving Brutus back to his home. He promised that he’s only going to live there temporarily and that another family should take care of him for good. However, seeing how compatible he is with the dogs in The Asher House, he couldn’t help but rethink what he told himself.

In the end, Asher has found the perfect fur-ever home for him, and it was at The Asher House. He renamed Brutus to Hooch, and Hooch is going to live with Asher and the rest of the canine family for good.
