“When the cat’s away, the mice will play.”
We have heard this saying many times. And this is what we can see in this video of a Golden Retriever named Phillip.
While his mommy is out for a run, this pooch is having a party at home. Well, he seems to be having loads of fun because the mess is everywhere. He’s perhaps going around the house enjoying what he’s been wanting to play with.
Probably, he has been eyeing it and is just waiting for the perfect opportunity to be able to get his paws on it. Do you know what it is? It’s paper towel.
His mommy is right outside the door and is about to get inside the home when she starts filming and record what her pet has been doing.
The pet is too excited to show his parent the surprise he has done while his mom is not around. Peeking by the glass on the door, she can already see the mess that her pet has scattered on the floor.
Pieces of tissue paper are everywhere, and she’s horrified to see the kind of mess that her animal companion has done in her absence.
Dog owners are very much aware of it. Dogs love playing with almost anything, especially with tissues. They get so curious with this stuff being white and soft, and they just love that it quickly makes a mess around the house.
He simply wants to satisfy his curiosity; that’s why he did everything that he wanted with the paper towel.
He bites, paws, shreds, and eats the tissue, which he finds quite entertaining. But, this also teaches him new information. Perhaps, it is also his way of addressing his anxiety about staying at home alone.
According to Stanley Coren, the dogs are putting tissue in their mouth because it feels like fur or feathers, which helps activate the animal’s innate urge to tear, rip, and eat such material.
Phil goes towards his parent and makes her follow him as he shows around what he has been up to.
His mommy is quite surprised, but of course, she’s not happy with the trash that’s all over the floor, leading to the living area where she sees more.
She can’t believe her eyes, and she has to clean every bit of mess her dog has made.
She exclaims,
“Phillip, you bad boy! You bad boy! Did you do that? What’s this? Oh, my goodness! Bad boy!”
The cute Phil tries to calm his mommy down by hiding between her legs, pretending to listen, and giving that “I’m sorry” look.
He keeps going near his mama, waiting for a pat. But he’s not getting it as a consequence. His mom tells him,
“No, I’m not patting you. No! Bad boy!”
To her dismay, she wants to punish him.
“You need time out? Time out?”
But Philip just looks too adorable to get a punishment despite his mistake. After all, he’s just a dog, and he needs more training so that he can behave even when left alone at home.
It’s a relief too that he just played with tissue paper and not the breakables. We don’t want to see expensive figurines or fragile pieces getting broken because of the pet’s mischief when we are not around.
