Has a long, hard day at work ever got you feeling like you could fall straight asleep at your desk?
Or maybe it’s the night before your new job and you’re so full of anticipation that you can’t sleep, so you inevitably end up feeling shattered on your fist day.
Well that’s exactly what happened with one little pooch from Rhode Island.
Meet Brody, a new K-9 comfort dog at Bristol Police Department.
Today was meant to be a big day for the cute little pup — he was about to have his swearing-in ceremony! But despite waking up early for the monumental day, the little guy just couldn’t keep his eyes open during the actual session.
In fact, he slept right through it!
Officer Keith Medeiros, Brody’s handler, told The Dodo:
“He plays really hard and he sleeps really hard. When he’s not playing, he’s sleeping, which is kind of tough because he sleeps a lot.”
Yep, the little guy was in such a state of excitement that it was literally too much for him, and he zonked out on the desk, leaving the officers to get on with the job.
So how did Brody get his job?
Apparently, the police department was debating over whether to bring on a narcotics or bomb-sniffing dog into the team, but Mederios, the school resource officer, had another idea.
What about a therapy dog?
The team loved the idea and Brody joined the team in mid-March 2020.
The timing was a worry at first, as Brody needed to be exposed to a typical day at work whilst he was still new, and the coronavirus pandemic had made things very different.
But it turned out that Brody had arrived at a perfect time. Medeiros said:
“People are really stressed, especially in law enforcement. Just by walking in the police department with Brody, people immediately smile, they immediately get into a better place. They want to pet him, want to hug him and it’s just a really good thing.”
Brody was certainly a perfect addition to the team. But when it came to swearing-in, the others could get on with that for him, thanks very much.
The hilarious video was posted onto Bristol Police Department’s Facebook page and has since been viewed 379,000 times while having over 800 shares, making Brody a local celebrity!
There is also a hilarious moment where Brody rolls onto his side, a look of deep contentment on his little face. The officers are trying to act professional, but you can see that it brings a smile to their faces.
Mederios said:
“We put him down on the desk and he was just so comfortable that he lay down and fell asleep.”
Mederios doesn’t seem to mind taking the oath for the sleepy little guy.
And from the smiles that Brody has already brought to so many people’s faces, we think that he’s going to do an amazing job!
