When you follow your passion and do what you love, you will definitely enjoy your profession.
Sandy Hodskins, the owner of the West Meadow Farm located in Bradford, NH, loved horses. No wonder she loves her craft and excels in it.
She specializes in Natural Horsemanship, a study of working and communicating with horses that are based on the horse’s instinct.
This approach is all about connecting with horses, and not imposing rules or respect from fear or from causing them pain.
Communicating with these majestic animals using this method ensures that they connect with humans, learn recreational skills, and even train them.
Sandy also manages clinics that range from basic skills such as basic ground and riding skills to overcoming obstacles, all while building a firm foundation.
For her, humans and horses, and other animals are partners.
In a video posted last March 04, 2023, we see Sandy with West Wind, her partner horse. According to the video description, Sandy brought West Wind to a new paddock that had fresh snow.
Sandy’s husband had just finished plowing, and she was done shoveling as well. She thought, why not make the most out of this fresh snow?
She thought of her horse, West Wind.
After they arrived in the paddock, Sandy lay comfortably in the snow while West Wind started digging through the fresh snow.
Sandy then watched her play with the snow while she positioned herself to make snow angels.
When West Wind noticed Sandy, he slowly went to her and did the same. Both West Wind and Sandy were ready to make snow angels.
It was such a lovely sight as Sandy and West Wind created snow angels.
Did you know that Sandy was already showing natural horsemanship here?
The psychological part of this adorable video is that Sandy knew West Wind loved laying down in fresh snow, and since she initiated it, the horse followed her cue.
Like kids, they had fun and enjoyed the cold and fluffy fresh snow.
“I was happy she did it next to me! We were just having fun as we did as kids. Something we often forget to do when we turn into an adult,” Sandy said in the video description.
West Wind came into Sandy’s life when he was just a yearling. The beautiful Kiger Mustang mare was born in Bend, Oregon, and now, he’s 17 years old.
The two had been together since.
West Wind helps Sandy with her endeavors and also teachers other people that humans and horses can communicate harmoniously without the use of pain or punishment.
If the human is knowledgeable of the horse’s basic instincts, individual personality, and even their communication system, then they would effectively and efficiently be able to communicate with each other.
For the past decades, this type of training has gained popularity for obvious reasons.
Horses, like any other animal, have intelligence, emotions, and understanding.
If we know how to connect with them, we won’t just understand them and train them, you might even enjoy a moment with them to create snow angels.
