If you have a dog, you know the struggle of keeping hair off the furniture and floor. Even dogs with short hair have shedding problems. You love your dog, but you don’t want to sweep up dog hair all the time. You put up with it because you love your dog, but it would be nice if there was a way to reduce shedding.
Someone decided to create a way to stop the shedding — or at least contain it.
Dog leotards are a stylish way for your dog to keep their fur contained. The leotards prevent the hair from falling all over your home and catch it instead.
They are fitted, so they aren’t bulky, and they still allow the dog to move around. Most dogs don’t even know they are wearing them. When you need to take the leotard off, you can do so outside or over a plastic bag, so all the fur falls off or stays in the leotard.
The leotards can then be washed and reused over and over again.
They are also great for when guests with allergies come by. The leotards keep the dog fur and dander from floating around in the air, so the guests won’t be as likely to have an allergic reaction to the dog.
The leotards are called Shed Defenders, and they were created by the owner of a St. Bernard. Tyson Walters was overwhelmed by the amount of fur in his car and home. In this case, necessity was the mother of invention. Walters explained:
“My car was practically ruined. Harley’s hair would intertwine in the fabric and not want to ever come out. She would shake, and the hair would just explode off her and disperse all throughout the car. I looked around on the internet and dog stores, but I couldn’t find a solution. So, I decided to make one.”
Walters made a leotard for his own dog and then realized that it could help other people, as well.
It might even make people more likely to adopt or foster pets when they know they don’t have to worry about shedding. He added:
“People love the idea. They love the look. It is a head turner. People always take pics of Harley when she’s wearing her, and they ask where they can get one. Hot pink is one of our hottest selling colors. It’s fashionable!”
The leotards have other benefits, too.
They have helped protect pets that scratch often and are a great alternative to the head cone that dogs hate. It can also help pets feel reassured and safe. Studies have shown that pets that have anxiety or have been abused can benefit from having a blanket or Thunder Jacket wrapped around them. The leotard offers the same benefits.
Dogs might not always respond positively to the leotard at first, but most learn to love it or forget they are wearing it.
The fabric allows plenty of airflow too, so pet owners never have to worry about their pets overheating. They also look really cute.
The Shed Defender website says:
“Every dog reacts differently to the Shed Defender; sometimes it can take a while for dogs to get comfortable in any type of garment, including the Shed Defender. They might walk a little funny or pick up their hind legs when they walk, but just give it time, and they will soon forget they are even wearing it.”
This is a terrific way to make life a little easier for you and your pet.
Your pet can feel more comfortable, and you can do less cleaning and spend more time playing fetch. The leotards are available in all sizes and a variety of colors and styles. They even make a great gift for someone who has a new pet or is a pet lover. Nobody likes pet hair, but thanks to these leotards, you can love your pet without resenting them for their shedding problems.
