Fair warning: this is a very sad story that might make you cry.

But it has a happy ending so you should read on.

This story is about an owner who abandoned their dog on Christmas.

As if that wasn’t heartbreaking enough, it gets even sadder.

CCTV footage in Stoke-on-Trent in the U.K. actually captured the owner carelessly dumping the Staffordshire Bull Terrier on the side of the road.

What makes this story so sad is the dog’s reaction.

The video shows the owner with his dog on a leash.

He then grabs the dog’s bed out of the trunk and walks to the side of the road.

The dog seems to nervously wag his tail. The owner then lets his dog off the leash.

The dog runs off for a second. Then the owner runs back as fast as he can to the car and the poor dog follows him.

The dog runs around both sides of the car jumping up at it and desperately trying to get back in.

It’s the saddest freakin’ thing ever. The driver seems to throw something to distract the dog. It works and the dog runs after it but as soon as the owner takes off, the dog runs after him.

I can’t imagine the terror and horrible fear this poor dog must have been feeling.

Thankfully, he was found by people who will make sure that he’s never in the hands of someone who will abandon him again.

“The footage has to be seen to be believed, it’s just awful,” animal welfare officer Natalie Perehovsky told StokeonTrentLive.

“To see the poor dog in such obvious distress jumping up at the car as it drives away it just heartbreaking. I can’t understand how someone could do this.”

The dog is now in the care of The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA).

They named him Snoop and are investigating the case.

“The vets scanned his microchip and we have traced two previous owners in the Birmingham area, but do not believe either are the current owners and therefore not those responsible for abandoning the dog,”Perehovsky explained.

The organization is looking for help in identifying the car or the man driving it.

Snoop is now in a place where he will get loving care and attention and eventually be adopted into a loving forever family.

“The veterinary staff have nicknamed the dog Snoop, and he is in good condition, thought to be two years old. He is a white Staffie with black marking and is such a friendly, lovely boy,” Perehovsky said.

“He’s currently being cared for at a private boarding kennel where he will get all the care he needs whilst I investigate further. It beggars belief that someone could abandon a dog like this at Christmas, but we are so thankful to the kind people who found Snoop sitting sadly in his bed, for taking him to the safety of a vet straight away.”

And it looks like Snoop will have a bright future.

Even rapper Snoop Dogg wants to adopt him.

It’s NEVER ok to abandon an animal like this under any circumstance. That dog could have easily been hit by a car. There are safe ways to surrender an animal, you can find tips here.
