Some stories are just too cute to handle. When one man was caught on camera showing kindness to his best friend, the internet just HAD to find out more of the story.
Doug Delony works for a news station in Houston, Texas, and saw something heartwarming.
Like many, Doug enjoys sitting at the park and just taking in the environment. Part of that involves people watching! The thing about people watching is that if you do it in one place enough, you start to learn a little about the regulars you see.
While sitting one day, Doug noticed a man walking into the park with a stroller, but no baby!
Walking through Discovery Green each day, Doug noticed a man that came every day to the park for a little routine. He walked a baby stroller, but the stroller didn’t have any babies in it – it had a dog!
When Doug snapped a photo, people just NEEDED to know more about the cute story.
Posting the photo on Facebook, Delony captioned it:
Most afternoons I take a run through Discovery Green, and most afternoons I see this guy with a stroller but no baby. He brings this beautiful… what appears to be… disabled pup to the park. He lets it sit in the grass and take in the smell and the sound. Here he is giving it water out of a small cup he brings with him. An adorable dog and a nice guy- God bless ’em.”
This man was rolling his dog in each day to play in the park!
Sitting the dog on the grass, the man then fed and played with the senior pup for a while before putting him back in the stroller and wheeling him away. The dog was disabled, but Doug couldn’t tell from his vantage point.
When the photo blew up on the internet, KHOU Houston decided to get the details!
People just seemed to fall in love with the little dog. The dog’s name is Max, and he is an essential part of the Mayo family. Max is blind and elderly and has been living in an apartment with his family for 16 years!
Since he can’t get around on his own anymore, his family takes him to the park every day for a bit of fun.
His family goes to these lengths to give Max some playtime each day because they know what he has contributed to their lives. Edie Mayo said:
“I don’t think you should turn your back on someone just because they are elderly”
…and that summed it up perfectly! Max may be an older dog, but he has loved his family well his entire life.
When the video was posted, 1.2 million people fell in love with the cute moment.
Gifts, comments, and kind words have all been sent to Max and his family! People from countries around the world have seen Max and what his family does with him. One family even waited at the park for 3 hours, hoping to get a chance to pet him!
The Mayo family has learned a lot from their furry friend over the years.
There is something about an older dog that just says “wisdom”. Edie understands that their family wouldn’t be the same without Max, no matter if he is just a bit gray now!
“He’s part of our family,” said Edie Mayo of 16-year-old Max. “He’s my best friend. He’s taught me life lessons that I will never forget.”
