Meet Gideon Kidd: the nine-year-old animal lover who runs the popular Twitter account I’ve Pet That Dog.
Gideon started his dog petting journey in 2016 when he was seven. That year, he and his mom decided to start a blog where they shared photos of all the dogs Gideon has petted. This includes many photos of Gideon petting his favorite type of dog, Chihuahuas.
In April 2018, Gideon and his mom decided to create a Twitter page with the same name as their blog, I’ve Pet That Dog. For their inaugural Twitter post, they shared a sweet photo of Gideon petting a big brown dog named Moose.

One day, Gideon and his mom came up with the idea to also share facts about the dogs Gideon was petting. They started by sharing a fun fact about Gideon’s own dog, Walter.
This is my dog, Walter. We found him running across the highway. He had been sprayed by a skunk and was heart worm positive. We love him. #NationalPetDay pic.twitter.com/ZMAYS6YytC

Then, they started sharing quick facts about the dogs Gideon pets on his walk. They’ll typically include the dog’s age, breed, and a little a bit about their personality. Everybody liked learning about the dogs Gideon met, and soon, his Twitter page started getting more and more followers.
Now, I’ve Pet That Dog has over 65,000 followers. Everybody loves Gideon’s cute tweets!
Gideon has now petted 331 dogs, and he shows no signs of stopping! He says he typically tries to pet around one dog per day. He and his mom will drive around after school and look for dogs. When they see one, they’ll stop and ask the owner if they can take a photo. Some owners will say no, which doesn’t bother Gideon. He just goes and finds another dog!
In an interview with Yahoo, Gideon gave some dog petting advice to people who are a bit nervous around pups:
“If you put your hand under their nose, you can let them sniff you. He’ll bark and growl if he doesn’t want you to pet him. If he does want you to pet him, he’ll come to you happily.”
Gideon has also started branching out to other animals—he recently shared a photo of him petting a goat. But even though he likes other animals, dogs are still his absolute favorite!
Gideon says getting to meet so many dogs motivates him to keep going. He loves how every dog looks different and how they all have such different personalities. He finds it fascinating to meet all these dogs, and he’s excited to keeping petting and meeting new pups for years to come!
I pet Keisha and Zorro. They are Siberian huskies. They only want to eat human food and try their best to get some. They love to swim and play all day. pic.twitter.com/yduZkLwryd
