Some pets spend their days inside the house. They nap in their favorite spots, eat from their dish, and take care of their business in a box or on a pad. Their whole world is within four walls, but they don’t mind.
Other pets get to go outside. A lot of larger dogs fall into that category although it includes smaller ones too. If you have a pup, you probably take him or her on a daily walk. Perhaps you take him to a dog park where he can make friends. Or maybe he gets to hitch a ride in the car.
Many cats also enjoy going outside. There, they set up a territory. Within it, they can climb trees, chase smaller animals, and simply watch the world go by. If you have a cat that goes outside, you’ve probably been the recipient of some unwelcome “gifts” like mice, squirrels, birds, or frogs.
But when our pets are ready to come inside? Well, they usually put up a fuss. They have all sorts of ways to let us know their patience is wearing thin. They’ll do just about anything to coax, convince, or just annoy their owners. Here are 75 animals desperately trying to do just that.
This dog doesn’t need to talk to express his frustration. If he could break this door down, he would.
2. “Open up, I brought lunch”
If you have a cat that goes outdoors, you know sometimes, they come back with a pick-up meal. Funny enough, humans never seem to appreciate it.
3. Who could resist such a face?
If you’re able to leave this dog outside for a single second while looking at this face…I don’t know what to tell you. You might not have a heart.
4. “I can see you in there”
“I know you’re pretending not to see me, Susan, but you know I’m here. And I can smell that bacon you’re cooking. Now let me in.”
Have you ever had a crow try to get into your house? This one is a daily visitor, working hard to find sneaky ways to break in through the window.
6. If only the cat had thumbs
Something tells me if this cat could open the door, he would. Either to make friends or to turn those friends into a tasty snack.
7. This was a bad decision
He begged to go outside…then it started to snow. Now, THIS is the face of regret.
Here we see two different tactics employed by a cat and dog. The dog is pleading for compassion because of the love they share. The cat, on the other hand, is threatening.
9. “If you won’t let me in…”
Sometimes, a cat has to do what a cat has to do. And if that means breaking the door down, he’s willing to take that chance.
10. “This isn’t cool, man”
Fred might be wearing a warm coat, but that doesn’t mean he likes the snow. In all reality, he downright hates it.
11. “For goodness sake, open the door”
I don’t know who’d win in a fight of Cat vs. Peacock. But I’m betting the cat doesn’t want to find out. On that note, OPEN THE DOOR.
This pup couldn’t believe the betrayal when he was locked outside during dinner. He can still see you eating, you monsters.
13. “This isn’t funny, Brian”
Sure, we get it: lock the white cat out in the snow, followed by laughing and taking pictures of him. Have you ever thought about how he feels? COLD, that’s how.
14. “Hey, is Scottie home?”
This dog comes to the door every day, begging for his playmate to come outside. Or to come inside to be with him. Either option is good.
15. “I brought you a present”
This dog is willing to bargain for entry by offering his prized teddy bear. Oh, not to keep, of course. Just to admire.
16. “I see you have some peanuts in the pantry”
Sometimes, even wildlife seems determined to make their way inside homes. But in case you were wondering, it’s not a good idea to let squirrels in your house, no matter how cute they are.
When your pet ventures outside, you never know what — or who — they’ll bring home. Then it’s just a matter of keeping the friend outside and letting the pet in.
18. If you’re cold, they’re cold
We’re just kidding — there’s never a reason to let a mountain lion into your house. But man, this one is making a good argument.
This little kitty got to go outside for the first time. Let’s just say it didn’t quite go as planned.
Reggie isn’t sure how much snow is too much…but he’s pretty sure this is it. For goodness sake, it’s up to his neck.
21. “Oh good, you’re home”
Have you ever seen a cat smile like this? I’m not sure if I’d let him in after seeing this face.
As you can see, his name and picture are right there on the doormat. Now, have some pity and let him inside.
23. “This isn’t a joke, Debbie”
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a cat look so stern and disapproving. This is the look your dad gives you when he thinks you’re being irresponsible.
24. “That’s right, just open the door”
This mountain lion is presenting her case to the cat. What can we say? They share a common ancestor, after all.
25. “Look into my eyes and say you can leave me here”
This cat is trying the “sit and make unflinching eye contact” method. I’ll admit, it’s more effective than you might think.
26. “Do you have a moment to talk about peacock rights?”
It’s probably not a good idea to let a peacock into your house. Does anyone know if it’s bad luck to open a peacock indoors?
27. Who could resist this face?
Anyone who can resist this face has a heart of stone. I don’t care if it’s your dog or even his house. Just let him in.
Say what you want about cats, but they’re great at sharing. They just always want their humans to have the first pick of their delicious snacks.
29. Waiting oh so patiently
Look at this good dog, waiting so patiently for his owner to let her inside the house. Now, stop taking pictures and reward her good behavior.
30. “IT’S COLD AND IT’S WET”
The saying “Curiosity killed the cat” was probably invented after a kitty wanted to go outside, only to learn that’s not always fun. Sometimes, for example, there’s snow.
31. Those are puppy dog eyes
He’s pleading through the glass for someone to let him in. After all, it’s wet out there and he’d rather be snuggling with his owner.
32. “I want to come in and then go back out again”
You can depend on a cat to want to go outside and then back in again. And then out. And then maybe back in again.
33. “Hey, man, I’m sorry. Can I just come home?”
It is just me or does this raccoon look like it’s offering a sheepish apology? I think his roommate kicked him out and threw all his clothes on the lawn.
34. “Hello, we’re hungry”
Your kitchen must smell good if a kitten, a dog, and a chicken all try to break in. I’d take their determination it as a compliment.
35. “THERE’S WHITE STUFF ON THE GROUND”
There’s no outrage like a cat that’s stuck outside in bad weather. He might have a thick coat but that snow could get it WET, for goodness sake.
What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object? Or in other words, when one cat wants to get in and the other wants him to stay out?
37. “Human, we need to let him in”
If this cat could open that window, you bet he would. Because he wants the squirrel, um, to come inside and get warm, of course. Yeah, that’s it.
While this Husky might be willing to wait to come in, he’s not happy about it. For now, he’s just going to sit there and make this face until his owners freak out enough to take action.
This cat isn’t hiding anything: he just desperately wants to come inside. Won’t someone take pity on him?
40. The raincoat isn’t enough
This little guy might be decked out in his raincoat, but he’d still rather be indoors. After all, he can warm up and get belly rubs inside the house.
41. “That’s it, I’m breaking down the door”
When his human won’t let the cat inside, he has to take matters into his paws. It’s time to force his way in.
Sometimes, humans need convincing before letting you inside. These pup brothers teamed up. Their strategy? Look extra cute.
43. “After you let me in, you’re dead”
Any human who makes a cat spend too much time waiting outside risks serious injury. Just look at that tiny, angry face.
44. “Human…HUUUUMAAAAN….”
These dogs might be different in size, but they’re united in their desire to catch their human’s attention. Come on, open the door already.
45. “I see you…and I love you”
When dogs get locked outside, they wait patiently for their owners to let them in. This isn’t usually the case with cats.
46. Carefully decide what you want to do
When your cat’s this mad about being locked outside, you might want to make a plan. Before opening the door, decide which direction you’re going to run.
This little guy looks like a mop at the best of times. After a romp in the mud, it’s no surprise his owner keeps him outside until bath time.
48. Something tells me the cat is behind this
Let’s see: four dogs are locked outside while the cat is safely inside. Does anyone else hear villainous chuckling?
49. “Excuse me, sir, do you have some cheese?”
This mouse found the best possible advocate on its quest to get into the house. Of course, it might not last long once it does.
50. That’s one sneaky dog
This dog was sent outside for a timeout after bad behavior, but he had a plan. He tried to get back in through the window.
51. “I’m calling the SPCA…”
“Don’t you know it’s animal abuse to keep us locked out? Even if we DO have muddy paws.”
52. “Like it or not, we’re coming in”
If you leave your door open when you have chickens, don’t be surprised if they invite themselves in. Chickens are just rude like that.
Have you ever seen a cat knock like this? I didn’t even know they could make a fist.
54. A romance for the ages
The humans tried to keep them apart but their love only grows. One day people will sing about them. You’ll see.
55. “Only one of us is wearing a scarf”
Sure, they might have fur, but it’s still pretty darn cold out there. Only one of them is wearing any winter gear.
56. “I can see you in there”
If looks could kill, this one would bore holes right through you. Since this cat can’t get in, he settled on sitting and seething until someone opens the door.
57. A kiss in exchange for entry
How could anyone resist such a sweet compromise? This dog has a great way to get into the house: offer kisses. It would work on me.
Does anyone else hear soft music when looking at this picture? Hang on, I think that’s Sarah McLachlan.
59. “There’s a dog out here. A DOG.”
Most cats love to go outside…until they’re outside, that is. Then they quickly learn there are a lot of unpleasant things out there, like dogs and cars.
60. “I’m just going to stare you down until you open the door”
This pup’s strategy is to just stare, looking as pathetic as possible until her owner gives in. It’d be hard to resist this face for very long.
61. “Observe: I am a good boy”
When dogs are sent outside for bad behavior, the best thing they can do is show they’ve changed. Look at this good boy, lying down and waiting patiently.
62. Desperate times call for…teaming up
You won’t usually see cats and dogs on the same team. But in a pinch, they’ve got to do what they’ve got to do.
63. “No, I HAVEN’T been playing in the mud…”
This pup is trying her best to convince her owner that she’s ready to come inside. She isn’t muddy and she won’t track dirt inside, she promises.
64. “Would it be SO crazy to let me in?”
When wild animals stare at you through a window, it can get a little creepy. But man, this guy is trying super hard to convince us.
65. “It is raining, do you understand? RAINING.”
To see this cat’s face, you’d think there was no greater injustice than being locked outside. Of course, to him, there isn’t.
This cat was outside for all of five minutes before he regretted his decision. He’ll spend his life napping on the couch, thank you very much.
67. “Release us from this wretched white stuff”
Normally, these little dogs look sweet. But these guys reached their limit. Snow will do that to a dog, I guess.
68. “What do you mean, ‘the door is open’?”
This poor, sweet, and stupid cat thinks he’s locked outside. If he’d just look a little bit to the left, he’d see the door is open.
69. “I’m just going to slip in here…”
This chicken is trying the casual approach. “Oh hey, thanks for getting the door. I’m just going to squeeze past you, there…”
It’s amazing how pets don’t need to say a word to get their message across. All this kitty did was place a single paw on the glass.
71. How does this cat do puppy dog eyes?
I’ve never seen a cat that could do this, and that’s probably a good thing. I’d be putty in her paws.
72. “Maybe I’ll just open it myself…”
This cat has such a dirty look on its face, I’d be afraid to let it in. Does that door have a deadbolt?
This sweet kitty is trying to be patient but he REALLY wants to come inside already. There’s only so much fresh air a feline can take.
74. He makes a compelling argument
Here’s kitty’s strategy: be as cute as possible. And man, oh man, he’s good at what he does. I’d let him inside…no questions asked.
75. How long can you hold on?
Cats can climb pretty much anything. And screen doors are their specialty. If they’re annoying enough, their owner will let them inside.
