Everyone knows that cats have nine lives. They’re acrobatic, athletic, and astoundingly agile.
Cats are like little ninjas. I’ve seen them hop fences, climbs trees, and conceal themselves, effortlessly.
Well, they’re also wizards of physics. It’s not uncommon to see a cat do the truly unthinkable.
The laws of physics are essentially unbreakable… but some cats clearly never got the memo.
Here are 45 of the craziest, physics-defying cat photographs on the Internet. Gravity has no power here.
1. Cat Misson Impossible
Dogs are often regarded as cats’ biggest rivals. This cat does the unthinkable to avoid Its canine companion. Or maybe it’s just doing some pull-ups. Either way, how is this even possible?
2. Cat blanket
I honestly can’t explain what’s going on here. Is that a cat or just an incredibly long, fluffy blanket? I’m not sure bodies are supposed to bend that way. Yeah, this is probably an octopus, not a cat…
3. Sideways cat
So we all know cats can climb and jump… But this is just absurd. How does this cat’s orientation even make sense? This cat abides by no laws, especially physics. This has to be smokescreens and mirrors.
4. Spider-Cat
I have so many questions. How does a cat even get up there? There are no grooves nor any other place to put your paws. Did this adorable cat climb from the bottom or drop down from a window? Neither option makes physical sense. We’ve all heard of Spider-man and Spider-Pig… but meet Spider-Cat.
5. Schrödinger’s Catcula
Schrödinger’s cat makes another appearance outside of the lab. Or maybe this cat’s just a vampire? I hope this is just an optical illusion… A magic cat (or box) would certainly shape the way we view the world.
6. Curtains for the cat
I’m not exactly sure what’s going on here. This is what happens when you cross a bat with a cat… Those are some pretty strong curtains. I wonder who made them.
7. Car cat
Most people prefer riding shotgun… But this cat takes things to extremes. Well it certainly makes for funner car rides. This is a master class showcase of balance.
8. Couch cat
So apparently cats don’t mind being sideways? How does it even maintain its position on the couch? This shouldn’t be possible. Defying gravity is an art and this cat is an artist.
9. Floating cat
Due to the presence of a screen, this cat appears to be walking on air. I honestly can’t even make out the screen – that’s just an assumption. Maybe it actually is walking on air. Or is it just tightroping a torn screen mesh?
10. Halloween cat
This is scary for a few reasons. How’s this even physically possible? The cat’s clearly ready for Halloween. Maybe this is a witch’s cat…
11. Cat bath
This cat’s gotta take a bath, no big deal. Everyone has their own unique bathing techniques. Wait, I thought most cats can’t stand baths. Maybe this one’s just trying to escape…
12. Screen cat
Imagine opening your front door to be met by this. This cat must really want to get inside. The mesh screen is no challenge for this cat to scale. I wonder if the cat eventually made it inside…
13. Desk cat
This cat gets a little bored when its human companion’s working. Fortunately, his desk chair makes the perfect nook. Even without the human, this cat would have no trouble balancing. The human companion’s facial expression says it all.
14. Flying cat
Super cat jumps in to save the day. There goes a bowl of cat food! Wait, where is this cat even coming from? The photo makes it seem like it’s entering from above… But how?
15. The Cheshire Cat
I don’t think that cat’s using this the right way… This looks like a scene right out of Alice in Wonderland. That’s one mad cat… Is that its tail on the left?
16. Chair cat
I’m not sure if I’m looking at a rug or a cat. This cat’s body is bending at an almost 90゚ angle. So I guess cats are also expert contortionists? Obviously it’s just stretching…
17. Balancing cat
Cats will often perch in high places. This leather chair’s headrest proves no challenge for our feline friend. I hope there aren’t any scratches…. Despite its girth, this cat has no trouble balancing.
18. Floating cat
Wait, is this cat levitating? Perhaps. Or perhaps it’s just lying on a lass table. The camera angle certainly puts things into question. At this point I wouldn’t even be surprised if it was levitating.
19. Ninja cat
Someone somehow found their cat tucked in the top corner of a room. I wonder how he’s going to get down. Cats are like ninjas, so it likely won’t be a problem. That’s one cute, acrobatic cat.
20. Sunroof cat
Somewhere along the evolutionary line, the typical housecat gained the ability to float. Or is it simply standing on the sunroof of a car? I’m not quite sure. This cat looks heavenly.
21. Sideways cat and couch
So what do you do when there’s no space on the couch? Just find some space in the cracks nearby, obviously. This cat gets it… It just wants to watch its stories.
22. Jenga cat
Seriously, how is this possible? My brain hurts. Isaac Newton would be beside himself. There has to be a ton of weight on the right side of that brown box. This is like a cat-themed game of Jenga.
23. Hanging around cat
This looks like a scene from an adventure film. But instead of human actors we have two cats. The orange cat doesn’t even seem like it wants to help. It probably knows that this is no problem for its friend.
24. Wall cat
So apparently cats can walk up walls? Or at least walk across them… How is this cat even maintaining its balance? My preexisting knowledge of physics has been brought into question.
25. Corner cat
Some people prefer the nooks and crannies. Some prefer the corners, just like this cat. I’m not sure how it got there, but it seems pretty snugly tucked. I hope the corner’s nice and comfy…
26. The great outdoors cat
I’d like to get some sun today. No big deal, let me just open the back curtain and slide out the glass door. Well… never mind then. This cat really wants to get inside.
27. The return of car cat
I heard there’s been a certain car burglar going around. Little did anyone know that the car burglar was actually a cat burglar. In fact it’s a cat car burglar. It’s been able to tiptoe around the law… And these SUVs.
28. Wall climbing cat
Some people can simply drive you up the walls. Unfortunately, humans can’t exactly climb walls without grooves to grab. Cats, on the other hand, can go wherever they want. This cat has had enough.
29. Slinky cat
I’m surprised by how stretchable cats seem to be. This cat’s having a hard time getting from point A to point B. Fortunately, its body works like a slinky. This doesn’t seem possible.
30. Let me out of here cat
This house cat can’t stand the house anymore. It’s trying to find a way to get out. Scaling the screen door’s led to a dead end. On to plan B…
31. Cat tree
Cats climb outdoor trees, of course. Cats also climb cat trees indoors. Usually, cats climb them upright. But obviously, they don’t have to.
32. Long cat
This cat’s been studying the art of the slinky. Sometimes, jumping’s not enough. Seriously, this is something you’d expect from a snake. Are we supposed to believe that this is actually a cat?
33. Cat sleeping sideways
Apparently, this cat likes sleeping sideways. But how does it maintain its balance on the wall? This has to be an optical illusion. Maybe this cat’s just a magician.
34. Mr. Catastic
So is this all one cat? There’s absolutely no way. Or maybe we’ve stumbled upon the Mr. Fantastic of the cat world. It is pretty cute if not disproportionate…
35. Santa Paws
Usually, Santa Claus is the one to come down the chimney. Well, this year, meet Santa Paws. This is one festive cat… or maybe it just wants to escape… up the chimney.
36. Indoor-outdoor cat
This cat’s had a little too much of the great outdoors. It’s been searching for any crack and crevice that leads indoors. It’s actually kind of a scary sight. Let this cat in!
37. Cat screen
So cats are experts at climbing screen doors. They must view it the same way that humans view rock climbing walls. This cat must really want to get outside. It’ll probably find a way out, eventually.
38. Sideways stairs cat
Have you ever seen a cat walk up the stairs? Well, it’s usually not like this. Usually, climbing stairs is a little more… straightforward. I’m sure this cat got up the stairs… eventually.
39. Cat escape!
Here’s another cat that’s opted to climb the window screen. This cat just wants to get some of that amazing sunlight. It’s adorable when it’s trying to escape… and gravity-defying.
40. The cat that wanted out
Here’s another cat clearly trying to exit a house. Unfortunately, the screen door’s a little problematic. I wonder if there’s another exit? It almost looks like it’s floating in air.
41. The miraculous jumping cat
This is another wonderful example of cats defying gravity. I’m assuming this one’s jumping from the floor. It has expert form, to boot. I’m sure it made it on to the table with no problem.
42. Physics-defying climbing cat
Cats can climb. This is common knowledge. But is this cat trying to get in or out? Considering it can levitate, it should have no problem getting where it wants to go.
43. Fat cat
Cat trees are staples for cat companions. They’re great surfaces for scratching, climbing, and resting. But some cats take these trees to mind-bending extremes. I’m not sure how this one’s mostly upright.
44. Pull-up cat
Cats can go practically anywhere. They’re agile and jump incredibly high. Is this cat trying to escape? Or is it simply trying to do pull-ups?
45. The incredible balancing cat
This cute cat is doing the unbelievable. It’s almost floating in mid-air. Somehow, it’s balancing on what looks to be one single leg. Its eyes continue to search for an entry point. For some reason, I don’t think this particular cat will have any trouble getting where it needs to go.
