The bonds we build with our pets are beautiful and unbreakable. We’re there for each other through life’s ups and downs, through sickness and in health. They’re at our sides when we need a shoulder to cry on, or someone to go on an adventure with. In exchange, we spoil them rotten and shower them with the love they deserve!
It’s truly unconditional love, and these furry friends are here to remind us exactly what that looks like.
1) The toothless smile
“This is my friends dog Skippy. He’s 11 years old, has no teeth, but his tail is always wagging.”
Can’t shake this old boy’s spirit! Not even losing his teeth can stop him from smiling and looking lovingly at his humans.
2) Home is where the heart is
This homeless man and his loyal pets live a rough life, but not without love. They support each other and act as a comfort on the streets in Lahore, India where this picture was taken. The happy face on that pup getting a hug says it all.
3) Hachikō
Hachikō is a famous dog from Japan, for his unconditional love for his owner in the 1930s. His owner tragically passed away, but Hachikō waited for him at the train station every single day. He is known as the most loyal dog in the world!
In Japan, he is still held up as the perfect example of loyalty, even almost 100 years later.

4) Just trust me, little guy
“He’s usually skittish, but he’s not feeling great so he’s been letting me cradle him like a baby for hours every day.”
Letting your guard down is a sign of true love. Cats aren’t always the most friendly, loving creatures, but you know how they feel about you when they are a little vulnerable like this sweetheart.
Maybe when he starts to feel better he’ll still let you cradle him?! A cat-owner can dream.
5) ‘Til death do you part… and not even then
This heartbreaking image shows a little pup sitting next to his owner’s grave. It’s hard to know for sure if dogs understand the concept of death, or expect their owners to return. But knowing you can’t explain it to them properly is so hard! This kind of love and loyalty will bring tears to your eyes.
6) Street dogs
Strays have it tough – they have to learn to survive among other dogs, fight for their food, and sometimes suffer abuse from unkind people. But these two aren’t letting their bad experiences get in the way of some love from a friendly human.
It must be hard for them to know who to trust, but just like how it works for people, you have to decide if you get good or bad vibes off someone new!
7) Baby love
Babies and toddlers can be particularly hard for a dog (or any pet) to deal with. They haven’t yet learned how to be gentle with an animal, and those wagging tails can be enticing to grab! But no matter how difficult children can be to put up with when a dog just wants to rest, there is some intense unconditional love there. Growing up with a pet is magical.
8) Children’s hospital therapy dogs
These dogs have one of the most important jobs in the world. They get to keep kids calm and give them some love when they’re going through a tough time at the hospital. And judging by the look on this pup’s face… he loves his work!
9) Seeing eye human
“My dad’s dog Rio is 14 y/o and recently went blind. He pats his leg when he walks and she follows him everywhere he goes. Mom got him the perfect shirt.”
There is no bond like a pet and their beloved owner. This pup must have so much love for his human who’s still taking so much care of him even in his old age. So heartwarming!
10) No matter where you go… I’ll be there
“When he wants to go for a walk, but doesn’t do any of the walking.”
He may not be one for exercise, but he just wants to spend time with his human! Going out for a hike even when you don’t want to is unconditional love… that goes for people and pets alike.
11) Look at me!
This little fur ball loves his human so much, and he knows what he has to do to get the attention he deserves. His face just screams “love me!”, and gosh darn it if he was my cat I would drop everything I was doing to give him some love.
12) A workin’ dog
This little boy has a job working as a greeter, and he is absolutely smashing it. He loves everyone who enters the building and is available to give some love in exchange for a few pets. 10/10 this guy needs a raise.
13) He never left his side
When Jeffrey Groat got in a car accident, the ambulance came to sweep him off to the hospital. His dog, who had also been in the car, chased after the ambulance and followed his owner to the make sure he was okay. That’s some serious unconditional love! Don’t worry, the two of them were okay in the end.
14) This the look of love
“This dog’s owner was going to dump him Friday night if they couldn’t find someone to take him by 9. I saw the post at 8:40. We went to get him, and couldn’t bring ourselves to call a rescue the next day. He’s family now.”
It’s impossible for this pup to know just how close he was to losing his life, but this incredible twist of fate and a big heart changed the course of his life. He can’t know but he certainly looks like he knows.
That’s the look of true love!
15) Look for the girl with the broken smile
“Her face is a little crooked, but she’s the best dog in the whole world!”
She kind of looks like two different dogs on either half of her face! If you cover the left to look at the right she looks like a pitbull. If you look at the left she looks like a bull dog. She must be a mixed breed, and it’s interesting to see how it’s merged so distinctly here. No matter how crooked her face, I think she’s beautiful!
16) Sissy the Schnauzer
Sissy went viral after escaping her home and running twenty blocks to find her owner who was in the hospital.
“We looked up and there was this dog that was just running across the lobby.” – Mercy Security Officer Samantha Conrad.
That’s the sweetest thing I’ve heard all day!
17) A best friend
This photo could not be cuter. You just know this pup is going to be at this baby’s side through thick and thin, no matter what. And even though that’s just a wee child, you can tell they know how lucky they are. My heart is melting looking at this unstoppable duo!
18) Supporting those we love
One aspect of unconditional love is supporting people no matter what. And while this dog was “singing” his siser was happy to sit there with a big smile on her face.
This dog is doing a great job of supporting her sibling’s dream of becoming the next winner of Dog Idol.
19) Birthday boi
This little guy just turned 6! Judging by the look on his face you’d think this was his first birthday party, but I get the feeling he’s been through this before.
This kind of love is unparalleled, he even got his own little doggy cake! The hat is just a small price to pay to make his owner happy and have a day where he’s spoiled even more than usual.

22) Cuddles mean the world
“After 2 years of my dog never wanting to sit next to people, she’s finally allowing me to sit next to her when she rests.”
This is too pure. It takes a lot for an animal to overcome trauma, but having a loving human at her side is a tremendous help. Little by little she’ll be able to trust fully again. This is unconditional love on both sides, the dog and her owner.
23) Rescue love
“He only ever barks when he’s having a nightmare. He’s a rescue dog, I don’t know what happened to him before but he’s always desperate for more food! He’s a good boi.”
Rescue dogs go through so much hardship, and often we’ll never know exactly what those hardships are. If only dogs could talk! But one thing is for sure, once they find their loving forever homes, they’re love cannot be compared.
24) You can be sure she’s just done something wrong
Alright something is up here. This puppy looks guilty! Maybe she’s worried she’ll get in trouble for trying to hide on the roof. But if anything, that’s impressive!

26) Ducking brilliant
“Dad fell into our pool saving a little duckling. He’s a ducking hero.”
First of all, this is the best use of “ducking” I’ve ever seen – probably the only time it’s ever been relevant. It’s still a mystery why autocorrect changes it from the word we’re actually trying to use.
Anyway, this is a top dad right here. I hope they get to keep the little guy!
27) Nowhere is safe
Let me in!
Pets don’t like to let us out of their sights sometimes. Nowhere is safe – not even the bathroom. It can be pretty relentless… but we love them for it anyway!

28) Molly the “sausage roll”
This Canadian treasure is partially paralyzed, but her humans have built a system that not only allows her to keep walking… but to go skiing! She loves to cross-country skii with her family, even though she’s getting older and has a disability. She’s unstoppable!

29) Spoiled puppies
Thanks for the comfy bed!
This little croissant (adorable name!) is full of love for her owners, who clearly love to spoil her all the time. Man, sometimes dog live better lives than we do!

30) Puppy hugs
This darling puppy runs around giving human-like hugs to strangers on the street. Is there anything more pure than this?
Where can I find this dog? I want a leg hug like this one. Too cute!

31) Half an ear but a full heart
Tony the stray kitty was saved by a woman who used to feed him when he was still living on the streets. One day he came to her with an injured ear so she rushed him off to the vet. Now, after some surgery and a lot of TLC, she’s not only rescued, but adopted him as her own. That’s love!

32) We all need some comfort when we’re under the weather
“I’ve been sick for days, but Willow knows just what to do to make me feel better.”
This Reddit user just had to share an adorable pic they snapped of their loyal puppy. Pets always know when we’re feeling down, happy, or stressed – they have great instincts!
Seeing them do what they can to help is so heartwarming. This is a good pup right here.
33) Getting older requires a little creativity
“Jane is getting older and has some bad hind legs – this is how she sits nowadays.”
Jane is makin’ it work. It must be terrible to have her hind legs getting older, but her spirit is still up! She’s gotten very creative with her sitting position and I am here for it.
34) All dogs deserve love
“Nala has been in a shelter with no visitors for two years because she’s dog aggressive due to being attacked when a pup. Now she’s home and we hope she loves us as much as we love her!”
Taking on a pup that you know has a difficult history and is aggressive towards other dogs is a big job. But all dogs deserve love, and especially if this little guy has suffered some attacks, he needs this love more than ever. He looks so happy in his new home!
35) This old girl
“This is Veera. She’s turning 15 in a few days but she’s still my baby.”
She doesn’t look a day over two! This old girl must have lived such a good, spoiled life with her loving owner, and there’s more to come. What a precious face.
36) This water dog
This pup has Intervertebral Disk Disease (IVDD), making it hard for him to be mobile. But his human regularly takes him for a swim where it’s easier for him to get some exercise without placing too much weight on his spine! They’re out in the pool come rain or shine.

37) Such a clumsy pup
Okay so this little guy may not win any awards for his fetching/catching skills, but you have to give him points for effort. His parents love him despite his clumsiness, and don’t worry, he’s okay after this collision with a tree! Practice makes perfect… but maybe stay out of the forest when playing frisbee with this one.
38) Excuse me… pets please
“Hello, may I interest you in some cuddle time… please?”
Unconditional love is letting your dog wake you up when they want some petting even though you’re asleep and minding your own business in your bed. But with a face like that how could you possibly say no?
39) To protect and serve. And that doesn’t just apply to people
Even army dogs get tired sometimes, and this guy wasn’t going to leave a man (or dog) behind. Even wearing all that heavy and hot gear, he picked up another 50-80 pounds and carried the pup back to safety. This warms my heart!
You can see from the look on that puppy’s face that he love and appreciate his dedicated human.
40) Why appreciate the wildlife when you can stare at your human instead?
Instead of looking out at all the beautiful fall scenery, or staying on the look out for some Canadian wildlife… this old girl would rather stare at her owner who’s steering the boat. Full disclosure, this is my dog, and my dad is behind the “wheel” (or, paddle) of the canoe.
She stayed like this for the whole trip!
After seeing this list it’s probably made you think about how much your pet loves you, and what you would do for them in return. It’s a special kinda love!
