The mischief of a nearly 170-pound Great Dane has cost his family quite a bit of money.

While wanting to cuddle with his owners, three-year-old Larry wrecked three recliners, costing the Kempen family well over $2,000 to replace the damaged furniture.

Still, despite it all, they love him deeply.

Funny camera footage captures the black-and-white speckled dog trying to fit his six-foot frame on top of his adoring family members as they watch TV. The dog ‘thinks he’s a lap dog,’ according to the owner.

The 40-year-old father of three, Ken Kempen, can be seen unwinding on the lounger in the video, which was posted to the dog’s Instagram account, which has more than 103,000 followers.

Up until Larry jumps onto his lap, that is.

Larry can be seen playfully bouncing around Ken in other footage uploaded to the account. The final video shows one of his daughters playing with the dog.

Madalynn, 12, Colin, 16, and Harley, their 16-year-old Yorkie, all reside with Beth Kempen, 38, and her husband Ken. Their 20-year-old son John just moved out earlier this year.

They all adore Larry.

The Instagram feed was set up by the Kempen family, who reside in Combined Locks in Outagamie County, Wisconsin, to follow Larry’s antics.

Three months later, Larry tripled in size, and now he towers over Ken, who is six feet tall, while he is standing on his hind legs.

Larry is unstoppable.

The family has spent more than $2,000 because the boisterous dog destroyed the arms, backrests, and footstools of three recliners. To help stop additional damage to their furnishings, they even had to spend $1,000 on a “Larry-proof” sofa.

Over the past three years, Larry has become a worldwide phenomenon. Fans adore watching recordings of his ‘lap dog-like’ habits and delighting in his family’s reactions to his pranks.

He’s now a superstar!

“I knew Great Danes were big, but it’s a different reality when you’re living with a dog this big,” Beth shared. “Sometimes, we’ll fight, but when he wants to jump, he jumps!”

“You never know when he’s going to do it and he’ll never take no for an answer. He’ll do it to all of the family because it’s a lap and he’ll sit on it. He’s got to be one of the biggest lap dogs in the world,” she continued.

“My daughter can’t just push him off so she gets stuck there,” Beth remarked. “He can be a little gassy too, so that’s not nice when you get stuck under him. She has to call for help.”

Beth speculates that Larry’s demand to be on the family’s laps may have started when he was a puppy and that, looking back, they might have held him too often during the first four months of his life.

The family claims they wouldn’t change anything, despite the fact that the need to constantly replace the furniture Larry damages may upset others.

Larry is their joy, so if he wants a lap to jump on, theirs will always be ready!
