A young boy named Roman was determined to make a difference in the lives of shelter dogs. At just four years old, his world changed when he realized the grim future that awaited many dogs in shelters.
This revelation ignited a fire within him, setting him on a mission to rewrite the stories of these innocent creatures.
Roman’s journey officially kicked off at the tender age of four when he discovered the unfortunate plight of homeless dogs.
“I’ve been helping shelter dogs since I was about 4 years old when I learned that if dogs don’t get homes that they have to go to heaven and to my 4-year-old mind I was just like, ‘oh well let’s just fix that,'” Roman told The Dodo.
Supported wholeheartedly by his mother, they made regular trips to shelters, capturing videos to showcase these dogs and boost their chances of finding forever homes.
Their focus? Those timid, frightened dogs who often had no voice of their own.
But it wasn’t just about making videos. Many of these shelter dogs found temporary sanctuary in their own home, where they were lovingly fostered until a permanent family could be found.
The warmth and care they provided these dogs were undeniable, with each furry friend leaving an indelible mark on their hearts.
Recognizing the need for a more ambitious endeavor, they launched Project Freedom Ride.
The project had a simple yet powerful goal: transport dogs from high-kill areas in Texas to places like Washington, where the demand for dogs far outweighed the supply.
Since its inception in 2015, their unwavering dedication has resulted in over 4,800 dogs finding loving homes.
Roman and his family also took in foster dogs, including a pup named Bolt.
Bolt was a puppy that Roman’s family took in and fostered for months. From playful mornings to occasional drive-thru treats, every moment was cherished.
The bond between the boy and Bolt was undeniable, and when the time came to say goodbye, it was a poignant moment. Yet, knowing Bolt was moving to a loving home made it easier to bear.
“Bolt came to us when he was just a tiny puppy and throughout time he became my wrestling buddy. At least I know he’s going to a great family,” Roman said.
Finding Bolt’s forever home was a collaborative effort.
With the help of the boy’s father and a family friend named Sarah, Bolt was transported from Georgia to Florida.
The joy and excitement of Bolt meeting his new family were palpable – a new chapter in his life was about to begin.
This young boy’s story and his mission shine as a beacon of hope.
It’s a reminder that a single individual can make an immense impact, highlighting the importance of compassion and the boundless love that animals bring into our lives.
The boy’s journey, woven with the stories of the dogs he saved, paints a portrait of love, dedication, and the unbreakable spirit of humanity.
