An Alabama dad named Lon Watson loves a good nap with furry friends around him. He never sleeps alone. His daughter Catey Hall checks in on him and always sees him surrounded.
And it’s not just Lon’s house dogs who join him. The neighborhood dogs actually come in for an afternoon nap as well!

“Dad sees, plays with and naps with one or more of these dogs on a daily basis. They come running when they see his car and follow him inside,” Catey told The Dodo.
Lon works with the local rescue, Pound on the Hill so yes, he loves dogs.

“For as long as I can remember, my dad has rescued stray dogs” Catey said. “Growing up, we always had a dog. But there was always room for a stray in need. Now that he lives alone with his wife, there’s room for several. They work with rescues in the area to find homes for the dogs in need; however, not all of them are re-homed, and they stay with dad forever.”

Lon’s 4 dogs were all rescued and rehabilitated with the help of his wife.
Lon also meets the neighbors’ dogs, Hooch, Fluffer-Nutter, and Rosie when they’re around so they can nap too.
Hooch, Fluffer-Nutter, and Rosie always set aside time to meet Lon.

“The neighborhood is an unincorporated section of semi-rural Alabama. The houses are set far back from the street, so the dogs can bounce from house to house safely,” Catey said.
As soon as these dogs hear the truck coming, they run out to meet Lon.

Lon’s neighbors aren’t concerned that their dogs spend most of their time with him. Their naptime is special, and his neighbors won’t get in the way of something so precious.
Catey’s two dogs love Lon too and it’s almost like he has an effect on dogs.
“As a matter of fact, they try to leave with Dad when he’s here visiting,” she said.
Here’s another story about the dog-human connection that will melt your heart.
A Turkish man named Cemal Senturk was hospitalized last year, but his dog named Boncuk stayed with him, refusing to leave his side.
Boncuk escaped from the apartment when Cemal was rushed to the hospital. The dog followed his human all the way.
Cemal needed to stay for several days but Boncuk stayed by the hospital entrance. The dog refused to leave forcing hospital staff to inform the family.
Cemal’s daughter brought Boncuk home, but this smart dog escaped again and found the hospital again. Boncuk stayed for six days.
So using the window, Cemal communicated with Boncuk with her poking her nose through the doors at times while still staying outside.
Boncuk may have seen Cemal but that didn’t mean she’d stay home. She’d still find a way to visit the hospital, staying from morning until evening. The hospital staff did feed her when she’d visit.
Cemal was discharged six days later. Boncuk was ecstatic, running along his wheelchair before jumping up to be petted. Now that’s a happy dog!
