When most people go on vacation, they’ll generally leave a short note for their pet-sitter discussing their animal’s specific needs. They’ll say what kinds of food the animal likes, and they’ll discuss any medical issues the animal has.
But a woman named Gail Burgess took this a step farther. Burgess is the proud mom of four cats named Poots, Jack, Cooper, and Lucy. All four cats have very different personalities. And so, when Burgess went on vacation, she left her cat-sitter specific notes about each cat’s likes, dislikes, and general personality.
First up, there’s Pootydots, aka Poots. Poots is a bit shy, but once she warms up to strangers, she becomes very friendly.
“She likes to be rubbed on the belly and once she gets to know you she will probably go ‘Belly up’ for you! She also enjoys sitting on a lap!” Burgess wrote.
Burgess also made to address her cats’ alliances in the note. In Poots’ case, she gets along with Cooper and Lucy, but she and Jack butt heads.
Next up is Jack, the most skittish of the four cats.
Jack also has some of the funniest quirks of all four cats. Burgess writes:
“Any door that is open is one he will go through. If you open a closet, or the door to the side entry … he will go through it. He’s often locked in closets.”
Then there’s Lucy, the friendliest of the four cats.
Lucy’s favorite thing to do is eat grass, even if it doesn’t always sit well in her stomach. Burgess summed up Lucy’s personality in a few short, well-chosen words:
“Like I told you yesterday, she’s a puker.”
Finally, there’s Cooper, the quietest cat. Cooper isn’t unfriendly, but he mostly prefers to keep to himself.
Cooper is also a big eater, and Burgess says if she doesn’t watch him he’ll typically eat everybody else’s food.
While her mom was on vacation, Burgess’s daughter Amanda went in to check on the cats. She found the four notes and shared them with her sister Allison.
Allison posted photos of the four notes on her Twitter page, and they quickly went viral. Everyone loved seeing how much Burgess cared about her cats!

Burgess enjoyed her vacation, but she was very excited to get back to her cats.
“I never even liked cats until the first one walked into my life almost 18 years ago. I was a dog person,” Burgess told The Dodo. “I feel like that cat pulled me back from the edge of a bad depression that was slowly taking me down and poisoning my life … I was down for the count. Saved by a cat. I know that probably sounds ridiculous, but it’s the truth.”
Burgess clearly adores her cats, and it’s great that she took the time to make sure her pet-sitter understood the cats’ individual needs. We love seeing how dedicated this cat mom is to her four sweet fur babies!
