Madison Kelly is an accomplished cyclist who lives in Michigan. She’s also a huge cat lover—she has had a sweet cat named Kitsy for nineteen years.
Madison wasn’t planning on taking in another cat, but fate had a different plan for her.
In August 2018, Madison went to Chicago for a bike race.
After finishing the race, Madison headed to her van to drive back home. As she walked through the parking lot, two other cyclists approached her carrying a tiny, dirty kitten. They explained they had found the stray kitten huddling under a car, and they were looking for someone to take her home.
Madison took the kitten from the cyclists, and the kitten immediately climbed onto her shoulder and refused to come down.
The kitten had decided Madison was her new mom, and luckily, Madison was completely okay with that!
“Didn’t win the race but won a stray kitten’s companionship. Welcome to the family little one!” Madison wrote on Instagram.
Madison decided to name the kitten Puig—which is Latin for “podium” and Catalan for “climb.” Little Puig slept on Madison’s lap the whole way back to Michigan. The kitten purred in her sleep—she was so happy to be with her new mom.
Puig immediately made herself at home in Madison and her boyfriend’s apartment.
The kitten ran around and explored every nook and cranny of the apartment. She also discovered that she loved socks. She began collecting Madison and her boyfriend’s socks and hiding them all over the apartment!
Unfortunately, nineteen-year-old Kitsy passed away from old age soon after Madison brought Puig home. Madison decided to adopt another cat so Puig would have a friend. She ended up adopting a sweet little kitten named Waffle.
Waffle and Puig immediately bonded, and they began causing lots of hilarious mischief together. The two kittens are big fans of hunting wet sponges!
When they’re not hunting, Waffle and Puig enjoy cuddling together or with their mom. Puig also taught Waffle that Madison’s shoulder is the best place to hang out!
Madison is so happy that she took in Waffle and Puig, and she loves watching them grow up together.
“Adopt a stray and they will love you forever,” she said.
