Toby didn’t understand what had happened.

One day, the four-month-old mini poodle was happily living with his family in Southern California. The next, he was surrendered to Carson Shelter, a notorious high-kill shelter. The poor dog had done nothing wrong, but he had still lost his home and the family he loved.

Toby nervously sat in his room, terrified by all the barking and the loud noises in the shelter. He was completely overwhelmed by the shelter, and so he spent most of his time sleeping, trying to ignore everything that was happening around him.

Toby needed help finding a new forever home, and so the group Saving Carson Shelter Dogs shared a photo of Toby on their Facebook page. This group shares photos of all the dogs available for adoption in Carson Shelter. They also let people know when dogs have been adopted or have found foster homes.

Saving Carson Shelter Dogs also shared a video of Toby in his small room.

At first, Toby was too shy to acknowledge the woman holding the camera. But finally, once he realized that she wanted to help him, he walked up to her. He wagged his tail and let her pet his head.

Thankfully, Toby quickly found a great home.

On April 25th, 2017, he was adopted, and he left the terrifying shelter behind. The sweet puppy will hopefully never have to spend another night in a shelter.
