They say a dog is a man’s best friend, and this next story proves just that. An elderly man was losing his battle with cancer, and devastatingly, he was faced with the prospect of never being able to see his dog and say goodbye. But all of that changed when one kind nurse who was treating the man offered to try and help smuggle the little pup in.
The moment when the man is reunited with his dog was a truly special one, and he was able to pass away peacefully not long after that. Get those tissues handy, because this story might give you a bit of a lump in your throat.
Ellie Miguel’s grandfather, David King, was being treated for cancer in a hospital in Missouri, but his condition was quickly deteriorating. He had been bravely battling the cancer for a long time, but doctors knew that he didn’t have long left to live. Before he passed away, David’s wife, Cindy, knew that her husband would have one final wish: to see their little Yorkie mix one last time. However, there was one problem: the hospital had a strict no dogs policy.
But that didn’t stop Cindy! With the help of an amazing nurse, the family devised a mission to sneak in the pup named Lil Fee, and David was able to cuddle up with his beloved pet one last time.
His granddaughter Ellie, 17, shared a couple of touching pictures showing the moment on Twitter, with the caption:
“My grandpa is losing his battle with cancer so the nurses helped my grandma sneak their dog into the hospital to say goodbye.”
Her tweet quickly went viral with over 1k likes, as people shared their sympathy and praised the nurse for helping make David’s wish come true.

Ellie told Yahoo Lifestyle, “My grandpa loved his dog Lil Fee; she would follow him around everywhere. He would bring her everywhere he could. My grandpa had been battling cancer for the past couple years, but last week it took over his whole body.”
“He spent about a week in the hospital, and my grandma brought pictures of the dog to hang up.”
But pictures are nothing like the real thing, and although Ellie’s grandmother talked often about Lil Fee, she wished that there was some way that David could see him again. That’s when the nurse stepped in with an idea.
“The nurses always heard my grandma talking about Lil Fee. So they encouraged her and helped her get the dog in. They had my aunt carry the dog in a really big purse,” she said.
It was clear to see just how much having Lil Fee with him again meant to David. According to Ellie, as soon as she was brought over to him, David did something pretty amazing!
“For the first time that day, he moved his arm in attempts to pet his Lil Fee. It was a moment I’ll never forget.”
David must have felt such peace from being able to see his beloved pet again for one last time, and a few days later he passed away. We hope that the nurse’s empathy is recognized, and maybe this story will encourage hospitals to change their ‘no pets’ rule. People deserve to be with all their loved ones before they take their last breaths.
