Man takes nap outside—and wakes to find stray cat sleeping on his stomach
We can't imagine a better surprise to wake up to.

We truly believe that animals know exactly where to go when they need help. It’s like they can sense how much they can trust somebody – and there’s no better feeling than when an animal chooses you as the person they trust.

Ali Safa wouldn’t have called himself an animal person, but one little cat decided that he had the potential.

Ali was basking in the sun outside his home in Canberra, Australia, when he fell asleep. He ended up napping for around two hours, but when he woke up, he wasn’t alone.

“I was taking a nap on the balcony of our house, and, like two hours later, I woke up and I found her just napping on my stomach,” Ali told The Dodo. “At first, I thought she was a rat.”

The kitten was so small and frail-looking, but aside from that, she seemed to be pretty content, and she was purring away in Ali’s lap. Her fur was a dirty white and she had pink, hairless ears and dirty little paws – and Ali instantly fell in love with her.

“I never really had a pet and I am a bit of a loner so I don’t have many friends, too,” Ali explained. “While she was sleeping I kept hearing that ‘purr’ sound cats make and it was the cutest sh*t I have ever heard.”

Ali had spotted stray cats in his neighborhood before – but this encounter felt different. It was as if the kitten had chosen him to be her new owner.

Ali snapped a quick selfie with the little kitten, being careful not to wake her. Some people might not like the idea of snuggling up with a stray, but Ali didn’t mind at all.

“[I] wasn’t really bothered if she has fleas or anything like that ’cause I thought to myself, ‘If she does have fleas, I probably already have fleas, too, so whatever,’” Ali said.

When the kitten woke up, she had one thing on her mind: food. The kitten looked so skinny that Ali had no idea when she had last eaten- so he wasted no time in providing her with a feast.

“The first thing she does is step down [off] the sofa, look me in the eyes and start meowing nonstop for 20 seconds,” Ali wrote on Reddit. “She’s obviously hungry, so guess who’s sharing the chicken wings my mom made?”

Once she was full and content, Ali took the cat in for a bath. It was then that he realized that the dirt on her fur was actually some beautiful, grey markings.

His thoughts then turned to what was going to happen to the sweet cat:

“There really aren’t any house rules against pets in my family and she looked like she can use some family, so I was like, ‘Screw it, I’m keeping her,’” Ali said.

Ali named his new kitten Angel, and he began to enjoy the responsibility of being a cat dad. A vet’s trip revealed that Angel was healthy and without a microchip- which was great news all round. As soon as Ali knew that Angel was properly is, he went to the store and bought her some food, and her first-ever toys.

It’s been two weeks since Angel came into Ali’s life, and those two weeks have been some of the most enjoyable of his life.

“All I can say is that she is the most fun cat I have ever gotten to play with,” Ali said. “All she does is just roam around me all the day wanting pets or to play. I’d be on my laptop working and she would just jump on my keyboard and sit between my arms,”

He added:

“Picking her up and putting her down on the ground won’t help because she would just jump right back up until she gets the petting she wants.”

It sounds like Ali and Angel are already bonded for life! She couldn’t have picked a better owner to look after her.
