Brittney Novicks was completely panicked when Ashley disappeared.

“I just can’t help thinking where she is and what she’s doing,” Ashley said in a Facebook post.

Ashley is one of four of Novick’s beloved dogs. So, it was like her child had been lost. And Ashley’s siblings were upset too.

“She stopped eating and laid by the door,” Novickis said of one of her other dogs, Mavis.

It is believed that Ashley ran out of her Savannah, Georgia, home through a door left open by the dog-sitter.

This set off a massive search for the doggo that lasted until the wee hours of the morning.

“I was out walking until 2 a.m. looking for her,” Novickis told saavannahnow. “It was awful.”

Amazingly, Ashley somehow ended up over 200 miles away in Daytona Beach, Florida.

“How Ashley made her way to Daytona Beach from Savannah is a mystery,” a rep for the Halifax Humane Society (HHS) told Daily Mail.

Novickis believes that Ashley may have been picked up by a truck driver or someone and then later escaped or was let loose. Novickis and her family spent two weeks not knowing what became of their beloved husky.

But eventually, Novickis was contacted by someone on Facebook who saw her post about Ashley going missing and believed that it was the same dog she saw on the HHS’s Facebook page.

Ashley had even been renamed Kit and was on the verge of being adopted with two prospective families set up for her.

If Novicks had called a few hours later, her dog might have been given up for adoption. Thankfully, she was able to reach a HHS volunteer in time.

“I asked her to go back to the dog and say ‘Ashley’ and tell her to sit and speak,” said Novickis, who was put on hold for what seemed like forever.

The shelter worker said that Ashley had responded to her name being called, so Novickis grabbed Ashley’s vet records and headed on over to Daytona to get her dog.

“I was so excited. I knew it was her instantly,” Novickis said. “I saw her goofy little grin and just knew.”

A video of their reunion was taken and ended up going viral because of Ashley’s enthusiastic reaction to seeing her mom and dad again.

Ashley couldn’t believe she was seeing her parents and started jumping up and down and going crazy.

She was barking at the glass and jumping up against it. She ran right over to her momma as soon as she was let out of her kennel.

And Novickis just picked the big husky up like she was a baby and held her close.

“Ashley as you can see in the video was very happy to see her,” said the rep. “The owner was ecstatic to finally find Ashley after searching for her for over two weeks.”

While Ashley was wearing a collar with tags when she was last seen, she was found without one.

The rep for the humane shelters stressed the importance of microchipping your pet.

“Had Ashley been microchipped, she would have been returned much sooner,” HHS said. “Only about 22 percent of lost dogs that entered animal shelters last year were reunited with their families. However, the return-to-owner rate for microchipped dogs was over 52 percent.”
