We are too advanced as a species to worry about “feuds” anymore, right? It seems like there has to be a way for cats, dogs, and humans to all coexist together. Casper and Romeo might just be the perfect example!

Romeo is a cat with the classic “Grumpy Face.”

As far as cats go, Romeo is a cute one! On his first day home, he was as playful as can be and was so happy to be in a loving family. The only issue, however, was that this family already had a dog!

Casper the dog has lived with his family for years – and now Romeo moved in!

Romeo’s mom and dad wanted to do their best to make sure that the two got along well. Thankfully, they had a foolproof plan to get them acclimated to one another, and the results were amazing!

The first thing they did was let them see one another.

Letting Romeo see Casper was the first step. Casper is a happy-go-lucky dog and wasn’t going to be the issue – it was Romeo they were worried about! This first test was good and let them get used to seeing each other.

After the first look, they got to smell each other.

Without being close or anything, Romeo was placed in a little netted bag that let him and Casper smell each other’s scents. For cats and dogs, scent is super important. Next, they placed Romeo on Casper’s bed to let him get more comfortable with the smell.

Romeo started to get more curious about the house and started exploring!

You could see the slow progress was starting to pay off! The next step was to have them meet through a window. The two met and were only separated by a pane of glass. Romeo was still nervous!

Next, they started to eat around each other.

Starting with a gate, the two were fed simultaneously and would sit and eat in one another presence. Soon, they would remove the gate and the two would be fed right as the gate was removed. Slow and steady!

Casper was ready for a new friend, but Romeo was still taking his time!

Romeo was definitely the more cautious of the two and took some convincing. Slowly but surely, every morning the two would get closer and closer together. Finally, there was a breakthrough!
