When Blue’s mom Kimberly first brought him home, she couldn’t help but think, “Oh my God, what have I done?”

In tears at the nervous and hyper animal that she was now charged with caring for, she wasn’t sure she was up to the task. Blue had been a racing dog and a broken leg ended his career. He had never been a pet – and it showed.

He was also bigger than she expected.

“I had no idea how big greyhounds could be,” she told The Dodo.

She hadn’t really thought out the adoption completely. Kimberly called him “a bit of an accident.”

You see, no one else wanted the dog.

He associated everything with fear. He didn’t know any rules and was full of energy, not even able to walk on a leash since he had never been taken for a proper walk.

Kimberly, who lives with her pup in Melbourne, Australia had to teach him just about everything, including that he was safe.

“Patience was probably the biggest thing that helped the both of us through it,” the dog mom said of their growing pains.

Eventually, Blue got the hang of things, but there was one moment in particular that indicated to Kimberly that everything would be just fine and that the dog would adjust.

He got the zoomies.

With narrow hallways and tight turns, she got quite a kick out of watching him try to zoom around the house. But Blue didn’t care – he was finally free to play!

The “very dorky” and “very bouncy” boy is now all about living life to the fullest.

And he doesn’t hide his emotions either. When he’s sad, he lets everyone know it!

He can be quite vocal, probably because he knows mom wants to make him happy.

But it’s not all zoomies and pouting.

“Most of the time he is a slug essentially, like, he’s not moving by choice.”

But mom gets a warning when he wants to play.

“When he wants to play he’ll sit in his bed. And I can feel him looking at me…It doesn’t matter where I’m facing I just know he’s doing it. It’s so intense,” she explained.

Not content to wait for his mom to get the hint, Blue starts whining when he wants attention, building up to quite a bit of howling.

There’s no mistaking how this dog feels!

Of course, since Kimberly finds the behavior hilarious she can’t help but laugh at him, even though she knows it just reinforces the habit.

But hey, when he’s funny, he’s funny! And sometimes you just have to laugh.

Blue is now a “quirky and cheeky” dog with lots of friends, a comfy couch, and a safe home and loving owner to call his own.

“It’s hard not to feel like it was just meant to be,” said Kimberly of their once “accidental” relationship.

Blue’s Instagram page now has over 18,000 followers and counting – and that’s in addition to the 30,000+ followers on Facebook.

He’s becoming quite the celebrity!
